Question About Webmail.

    If Im in country A and I login to my internet and open webmail in my browser and my emails are hosted on a server in country B, then can country A intercept my emails and read them?

    Easy, if you're using country A's ISP. Otherwise much harder, and probably not feasible for them.

    So basically thumbing your nose at the NSA or LEA by using the webmail of another country won't do a darn thing.

    There are two general issues. One is your connection to the webmail server. Even if it's secure (HTTPS) there's the chance that country A can intercept traffic. Using a VPN that gets you out of country A can help with that. But then you must trust the VPN provider.

    Another issue is transmission of messages among servers on the way to (and from) the webmail server. Those connections are often encrypted, but not always. Depending on country A's reach, they may be intercepted.

    The best solution is using end-to-end encryption, and also using anonymous email addresses, so that message headers don't identify you.

    In all seriousness, from what we've learned in 2013, Lucy, I would assume that if you're in country A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I,J,K,L,M,N,O,P,Q,R,S,T,U,V,W,X,Y, or Z... and the emails are hosted in country A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I,J,K,L,M,N,O,P,Q,R,S,T,U,V,W,X,Y, or Z, then your emails can be intercepted and read.

    I'm not trying to be funny - it's just the way it looks right now. TFN.
