I seen a post over at raymonds.cc forum about this new, free antivirus. It is supposed to have the BitDefender engine and signatures and provide real time protection. So far only the Simplified Chinese language version.

Anyone know if an English version exists? Anyone know much about it?

If it is really free, then it is probably using a dated version of the bitdefender engine.

This is most intriguing. If this is an up-to-date version of BD,free of charge then it's a very good find.I'd be surprised though if they licenced their current engine for free.
If I can stay sober long enough I might have a play with this over Xmas.o_O

If you need to learn Chinese to use it I would hardly call it "free"...:D

I did read that a translation into English is on the cards.
Mind you I'm more likely to understand Chinese once I've had a few festive beers than my own language. o_O

They need to license the Bitdefender engine, and it isn`t free. Where is the catch?

I don't know if this software is 100% safe. I was at their website through Google Translate and Browser Defender warned me that page I was visiting was not safe

Out of curiousity, I did a little research.

It seems that McAfee's SiteAdvisor flagged the link as unsafe. I don't use the SiteAdvisor, I got that from google.

So a free Chinese AV uses the Bitdefender engine plus signatures, and it's not rogue ? How can they afford that ?

I think we all remember the 'IObit events'.

So I did a little more research.

    I googled for 'sd.360.cn malware'.

And found a rather disturbing link.
I don't know if the Quanzi in the link is the same person as the Quanzi on this forum.
I don't know if it would be legal to publish the link, so I won't do that.
It's really easy to find, though. It's a Vietnamese website, although with a .com extension.

Many AVs/antimalware products are offered, for free, in violation of European and USA copyright laws. Mirrors, rapidshare, mininova, mediafire, coupon codes, Kaspersky 2010 with keys/keygens !!!

    IObit is mentioned too ...

I mention this not as a suggestion to actually download anything, but to expose certain issues.

Downloading illegal copies of security software is not only illegal, it's also stupid. What you download may be malicious or infected, be ineffective, have a backdoor, it may stop working at all when a vendor like Kaspersky blacklists the keys, leaving you unprotected.

Lesson: if it's too good to be true, it probably is. Especially when dealing with free security software from China. (although in this particular case the website is Vietnamese)

Anyone, feel free to pass on the link to interested third parties, like Kaspersky, Symantec etc ...

There is LEGAL free security software !

I did some more research and found out...

hpHosts blocks the 360safe website as a rogue
    Wot blocks 360safe as dangerous
Site Advisor found viruses at 360safe website
Browser Defender found viruses at the 360safe website

    Hi Guys,

I would like to inform you that Qihoo 360 is using Bitdefender's Engine and this security solution is 100% safe. Secondly, i have cross checked this with Mr. Florin (Team Leader) Bitdefender Tech. Support. and he himself told me that Qihoo 360 is 100% legit software and using there engine.

Why it was flagged RED in WOT and McAfee?
Then i would like to tell you that WOT is based on folks rating and McAfee always do mistakes...Even you can register License Keys of Qihoo 360 on Bitdefender's site. About its detection capability, i have not tested it. But i do have 5 Genuine License Keys of Qihoo 360. Incase anybody would like to have Keys can have words with me on PM.

So Qihoo 360 is 100% Safe and Sound.

Welcome a new security software from China !!

Free and uses a licenses engine? I don't get it but =)"="# about free, there's no such thing as "free", every one has to make a living so there's always a catch and I don't think USD 30-50 for a years subscription of a solid software is a lot, cut back on McDonalds for a week and you're there.

What no one is considering is it could be licensed to them for free. No one knows if or how much they paid for it.

How can we know whether you are who you claim to be ?
Can you back this up with some evidence ? Everyone can post on this forum ...
Mr. Florin ? The only Florin I could find was someone who's FIRST NAME is Florin. :cautious:

I consider your story far from proven.

It does seem that the software is the old 360safe which once offered a "free" solution using Kaspersky's engine.

360safe did get an interesting discussion a few years back:

    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=173415

Overall, I'd say: looks like an OK product, but tread carefully. :)
