Ok - Next attempt, whilst slow it did install. Selected Disk Cache option but File Manager and Advanced Options still unavailable o_O

Tried uninstall and BSOD'ed on removing Virtual Partition

Forget File Manager problem - just realised you need protection on to access- Duh

    Hi

Okay now, up and running and looking very good.

One suggestion straight off though. When you open the GUI and then hit Close I would rather it just close the GUI rather than completely exit the application.

To close the app do it from the sys tray or reboot.

Just my preference. Others may disagree

    Hi Old Monk,
Please let us know the exact text of the Blue Screen if possible so we can investigate this further. The uninstall of the VP should not result in any issues as the uninstaller will force a dismount if required. Does this occur when you dismount the VP prior to begining the uninstall process?

    Hi

Uninstall via Revo uninstaller. Request to dismount VP during uninstall process.

Very quick BSOD but one of those ''IRQ equal or not equal to something or other '' messages.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

    Jon,
Please use the Returnil Uninstaller (Start > All Programs > Returnil > Uninstall) and let us know if this still happens. I suspect that the Revo solution might be too aggressive in this case and we need a testing baseline to work with here to be sure.

    Ok Mike

It'll be tomorrow now but I'll post back.

FYI the latest Revo version has an Advanced mode which does a deep trace of uninstall remnants and thats what I tried.

    Post back tomorrow.

    Hi

Quick uninstall with Returnil uninstaller and all went well.

Revo has various uninstall modes so I'll test them tomorrow and see which if any replicate the BSOD

    Hi Mike

Tried Revo in moderate mode to uninstall without issue and then advanced mode again and this no problem either.

Much smoother install by the way with this latest build :)

Thanks for the quick feedback on this Jon. This might have been related to the autorun entry issue corrected in this build.

When you get a chance, give the new repair feature a look. Though it is primarily a program recovery feature it can also be used for:

    1) Altering the size of your Disk Cache if needed
    2) Creating or altering the size of your Virtual Partition
    3) Creating a new disk cache when restoring an image

For #3 there has been some very good discussion of how a disk cache can cause issues with an image, size being one of the most common complaints. With the repair feature you can quickly recreate a disk cache rather than having to carry it in the image.

You also do not need to worry about the System Protection feature should the Disk cache be deleted, damaged, or corrupted if you are using that method as the protection engine can detect this and will automatically switch to memory cache. This means that the System Protection will not be compromised or stopped...

Very nice looking feature set, am not a beta tester I'm afraid, but will watch the thread with interest, looks like well worth the upgrade from the free version if all goes well. Good luck. :thumb:

    Hi Coldmoon

Got a big BSOD on Friday ann sure why or whether it was Returnil or not.

However, just now I put system protection on and rebooted.

Got the following warning in sys tray.

    ''Explorer.exe - Corrupt Disk

The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the Volume C''

Returnil is showing in sys tray with protection on but Online Armor (latest beta) and Safe Space have failed to load

Any thoughts from a Returnil perspective ?

    Hi controler

    Hi Jon,
Please describe the steps required to reproduce this so we can invesitgate this. Be as precise as possible and include the exact text of any/all error messages and when they happen.

Also include a list of running applications, computer specs, and anything else even if it seems unrelated.

    Hi controler,
We need to look at Jon's (and yours if applicable) descriptive reports before we seek additional additional data such as a minidump.

I just installed this software for the first time. I don't have a serial number for the beta.
I haven't seen any BSOD's as of yet but a minidump will usualy show which driver is at fault. Only a driver can cause a BSOD. Or perhaps a corrupt or bad disk or memory.

the only thing better then a minidump is a kernel dump and as far as I know, you have to hook another computer to the one having problems to analyze a kernel dump.

Have you used Windbg before? It is pretty easy to use. You then just point to the crash file in windows folder. I am surprised support is not asking for minidumps for those having crashes.

I would be happy to look at your crash and see if I can see anything.

    Hi Mike

Ok. I'll try some configurations and see what I can reproduce. Chkdsk caused a very large amount of entries to be deleted.

    Be tomorrow now I think.

Right as I typed last post I was putting said machine into Protection On mode.

On reboot, BSOD and a lot of deleting entries with the following prefix - $I30 in file 30354. Other entries were also deleted.

Chkdsk ran again and large number of above entries deleted again.

Now in endless cycle of chkdsk.

Report more later with specs etc.

    controler,
This is a unique report and there have not been any indications of critical instability in the drivers since the initial development process began for Vista compatibility. This demands that we explore any error messages and steps to reproduce the issue before we ask for logs and/or dumps.

Another reason we can not rely on dumps and logs is due to the nature of RVS protection. It would be more likely that such logs and dumps would be lost at reboot of the system if the protection was on.

    Hi controler

Thanks for the kind offer. As posted to Coldmoon, will be tomorrow before I can do much else. Not tried Windbg.

Not seen endless chkdsk cycle before I must say.

    Post more tomorrow.
