Hi to everyone! Does NOD32 provide protection against Trj/WmvDownloader.A and Trj/WmvDownloader.B ? Thanks, Frens
Hi these threats are relativly new, they are .WMV files for Windows media player, when you try to play the file a screen appears saying aquiring license, what is really happening is your being redirected to a web site which attemps to download Spyware/Viruses to your computer. The Actual file is not a virus, just a means of delivery. Nod32 now has dangerous application filtering so the majority of these files will be stopped by Imon. Using a firewall that has outgoing protection (such as Zone Alarm) will warn you of attemps by these files to access the internet when played. Almost all of the malware files of this type are from P2P networks, in particular Kazaa, most are small porn files around 1-3mb in size, if u right click after downloading, in the file information section it has Protected written in the file info. The advanced features of Nod32 will stop most if not all of these threats.
As an added note, if you have seen anything like this on your PC, delete the folder Windows Media player uses to back up licences downloaded from the net, also scan with a good AntiSpyware pro and empty all browser caches, to be sure your not infected.
