    Earlier this week I updated the Protection Updates (8/26/2006) and enabled protection for all items. Last evening running routine updates, checks and scans, 19 ActiveX items under Internet Explorer were disabled. I have seen something similar before.

    A scan of the computer listed an unknown virus at:
    ...\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\javapi\v1.0\jar\arr3.jar-44f46a26-6c90c59f.zip

    The item has been deleted, no other problems found, computer working normally, I hope.

    This home computer is used by other people. I am sure that porn is downloaded to this computer.

    Are there web sites that can disable security protection.

    Is there enough encryption used to protect SpywareBlaster from outside influences.

    A number of months ago I saw a demonstration from a porn site that had movies. The movies needed a special codec. When the download codec was clicked an activeX warning came up. When permission was granted to allow the activeX control, within seconds half of all sites on Spybot S&D Immunize list had been disabled and Norton AV had been trashed. SpywareBlaster was not affected. The fix was to reload that computer.

    Computer Hardware and software.

    Compaq EVO 2.8GB CPU
    WindowsXP Pro
    Freedom Firewall, Antivirus, Anti-Spyware etc. (Subscription from Bell Canada - Company is Radialpoint - formerly Zero Knowledge Systems)
    Also installed: SpyBot S&D 1.4 Immunization is ON, 12,502 products blocked
    SpywareBlaster 3.5.1 (6,577 items in database)

    The 19 items that were disabled are the last 20 items of the activeX list except 1 item (Protection Updates 8/26/2006).

    Start item
    Trojan.Downloader.VB.FF - {00000000-0000-0000-0000-000020060000}

    End item
    Adware.Henbang - {BE0B5843-553A-48C2-9A42-258A1D791AFC}

    Exception Item
    Comet.C - {88D758A3-D33B-45FD-91E3-67749B4057FA}

    This posting is to spark debate on the security of security software and can we do better. SpywareBlaster is a excellent product.

    No help is required. I do have this gut feeling that I need to reload this computer before I do any more banking transactions. What was left behind for which I (we) don't have any information?

    Thanks for reading this.

    Hello LeepCon....Welcome to Wilders :thumb:
    If a signed on user does not have Administrative rights....that can be a cause for the ActiveX items showing disabled.

    If indeed no help is required for the Spywareblaster product....We ask that you start a thread in one of our other forums in order to "debate on the security of security software" and would suggest our other security issues & news forum.

    Thanks,
    Bubba
