Hi, My friend told me that the firewall for XP is crap and got me to install Kerio firewall 2.1.5. I'm also using AVAST anti-virus Its now throwing up a lot of alert messages which I am uncertain about. example: firefox wants to connect to port ... a975sm.avast.com [74.54.138.226] = ICMP [0] Echo reply ... Someone on address a975sm.avast.com wants to send ICMP packet to your machine. Usually, what I'd do is to google for the answer, instead I get problems associated with other problems. I can't seem to locate a Kerio site which tells me how to approve rules. Can someone help?
I'd suggest you get rid of Kerio and go back to the XP firewall. There's no quick-and-easy answer to your question. Kerio 2 is a rules-based firewall, and to understand its alerts you need to understand firewall rules and various other concepts. As for your friend telling you the XP firewall is crap - the question about the validity of his claim aside, the least he could do was to not stuff you with something like Kerio 2.
