I also cannot update my SpywareBlaster,AVG or SpywareGuard.I downloaded the 4 files into my SpywareBlaster folder and it saved it as HTML. I tried rebooting and still no change or update with a 9/9/03 database. Both programs say it's either a conflict with my firewall (ZoneAlarm) or the server is unavailable. I had prior to this had a bad update from SpyBot Search & Destroy (http://forums.net-integration.net/index.php?showtopic=9877).I then uninstalled SpywareBlaster,AVG,SpyBot and reinstalled all three.AVG was not updating and still can't reach the server.I went back to version 1.2 in SpyBot and updated version of AVG and a older back-up of SpywareBlaster.I did not touch SpywareGuard yet. Events prior to this I installed CWShredder,StartpageGuard and Sun Java Pluggin. CWShredder said it removed a CoolWebsearch after reinstalling my programs and PeopleOnPage was removed from Spybots.I don't know if these were false positives. AVG (Grisoft) with the download of a current database did not and has never had a problem. I also tried a program called Slipstream my server (Intergate.com) was offering and did not care for it so I uninstalled it. For the heck of it I included my Hijack Text. Nothing unusual in my start-up.

    Hi R.B.,

The only thing in your log I don't really like is StatBar, but it should not be related to yuour problem.

The above quote may however indicate what went wrong with SpywareGuard. Those files should not be saved as HTML, but as .dtb files.

Did you check your settings in ZA for the updates?

    Regards,

    Pieter

I renamed the 4 files to .dtb and rebooted but still had no luck. Is StatBar a problem? I'm using ZoneAlarm free edition and I gave it full access for now with the programs I'am trying to update.

StatBar is not really a problem. Keep it if it works for you. My computer didn't like it, but that could have several reasons.

Keep us posted on your updatye attempts.

    Regards,

    Pieter

I have idea if the beta includes would have anything to do with this currect problem ,, have you tried to use the recovery yet,, if not please do
    then restart the PC

PeopleOnPage was one of the false positives in the beta includes,, why anyone would fix those without first checking there is beyond me..
always check in the beta area of that forum first,, even then wait a few days or a week to see if other report problem with them

Thank's for the input. I got careless because I never experienced these problems before with Spybot and got to used to trusting it even though I was using the beta version at the time.I had some spyware on my machine after installing Slipstream and Spybot removed it and things were fine. After removing the Slipstream program and getting the new beta updates I thought or presumed it was left over from the uninstall of slipstream but it was not. I contacted my ip provider about it and they said the PeopleOnPage and Coolwebsearch I had removed were not in Slipstream. I think I might try detect and repair because recovery did not help.

Sorry to hear of your updating problems

Do all the apps appear to update like you've said with SpywareGaurd ?

Meanwhile One of the best Pieter_Arntz is on the case
so I better just sit back and watch :)

I suppose you have though of using system restore

    Regards
    Lonny

I used system restore to no avail. I have problems with SpywareBlaster,SpywareGuard and AVG (Grisoft) getting updates. All are fresh installs and these are the only three I can't update right now as I can tell. AVG has been in the past sometimes not updatable because of the server. Not to worried about AVG right now because of the current database in the fresh install. I will wait to see if it has problems on there next release. I uninstalled PestPatrol because it could not update properly even after a fresh install. I don't recall the file PestPatrol could not find;it should be in my previos post. I don't wan't to have to use detect and repair if it can be avoided. Thank's for the support.
    Respectfully,
    R.B.

    Hi R.B.,

When you try the Live update of SpywareGuard or the Check for Updates on SpywareBlaster, do you get an error report of any kind?

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Sound like an Internet optimizer

    Perhaps uninstalling/re windows comunication's Pieter ?

When we have had problems and found it necessary to use
system restore.. sometimes going back just before the problem didn't work,, but going back even further and further still did help
One time as if it makes sense I had to go back two mounth's even though the trouble stared only days ago..

If you do try system restore again uninstall everything you've installed since then first.

    Hi R.B.,

My guess would be that the standard connection set in IE is not the correct one. The programs are trying to connect to the internet, because the connection they are "looking for" is not active.

There are two reasons (I can think off) why that happens. You are not connected at all (easy to check) or the default connection set in IE under Tools > Internet-Options > Connections is not the one that is active.

    Regards,

    Pieter

I installed Norton Antivirus Pro for a 15 day trial and it is functioning smoothly with no detections in my box. Updates fine also. Tried to update SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard but could not connect with the same problem.
    Respectfully,
    R.B.

The problem actually was corrected after I removed "True Vector Services" which is a part of ZoneAlarm.

    FYI

I too have not been able to update my Spyware Blaster and I get the same error message as above. However, my problem started when my ISP upgraded the security to their filtered service and now requires authentication, something that more ISP's are starting to do. That is, whenever I open a new browser window, I get a box asking for my user name and password. All of my other apps connect and update fine (ie.) Panda antivirus autoupdate, AdAware, WebWasher, my 2 online bank accounts, etc.
The ISP does use a proxy server on port 80, so I have tried all three connection options in the settings area, with no luck. I contacted the ISP and they worked on it for 2 days with no solution. I suspect that the updating problem is related to some kind of security issue or requirement and that it is not recognizing the authentication request. No, I don't have a solution, but thought I might throw this into the mix and suggest another avenue of thought. Sound plausible?, or does anyone have a work around? o_O

The other thing I did was delete my internet dial-up connection and reinstalled it. I also noticed I was blocking pages silently in Spybot's and changed that to ask for permission. I don't think that the later part made a difference but you could try it.
