Could you provide the exact message as mentioned in: Control Center > Logs > Event Log?

    regards,

    Re:problem with nod: mfc42.dll

    Can anyone help:
[I hope this posting works. Have been trying for an hour].

I can't [re-]install NOD32 as an error come up.."can't create mfc42.dll" [in red] during the installation process.

Like sunita I have been getting "download file damaged" warnings, which, if I persist I can still download [eventually]. But now I can't even install.

There are other mfc42.dll files on my system. [eg NERO wave editor, and cover designer...what ever that is!]

    Can anyone help?

    Nobbled mfc42.dll in Trial Versions

    Hi:
Guess this one was too hard. But, did get some feed back from the kindly people @NOD32 tech support.

Seems there is a known "problem" with mfc42.dll

Some users may be experiencing a "down load file damaged " warning if you have repeatedly used trial versions from some Computer Magazine discs.

Actually it's intentional by NOD to block subsequent downloads after the trial version has lapsed. [ie, the senerio of reinstalling another months trial version]. This is quite reasonable and fair, but....

....for those few individuals with legitimate reasons to persist with trial versions for a short time, two work-arounds that work around are:

*persist [retry]with the download. You'll get there despite the warnings; ...or...

*totally uninstall and reinstall. This means stopping startup with a startup manager [eg, Mike Linns], Add\Remove to uninstall, THEN manually deleting the C\Program\Eset folder & all its remaining files [including mfc42.dll], reboot, remove the entries in the startup manager, reinstall [typical].
This should then be OK and work without problem, especially if you source the new trial version from another computer disc.

Both have worked fine for me as a short term measure...... For my part I will be buying NOD32 [THE BEST antivirus around!] asap [need to do some OS and hardware upgrades first]. Don't want to change horses in mid stream....

So, for what it is worth, I now cast my bread upon the waters...

The error message Update file damaged was reported only by clients of a particular Australian ISP, probably due to some connection problems.
