Yesterday I downloaded the latest version of Java from the Java Control Panel but when I tried to install it I got: "Error 1606. Could not access network location." That's it. I went to the website and downloaded the full version manually but when I tried to install it I got the same error. That was on my mom's XP machine. Today I downloaded the full version to my Vista machine but got the same error.

I turned off User Account Control, tried running the installation as Administrator and even tried to uninstall the old version of Java but when I did I got the same error again.

When you install or uninstall Java does it have to connect to a remote location? Any ingenious ideas as to what might be causing this?

    Thank you.

JavaRa didn't work for me for some reason. I decided to try the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and Java finally installed.

Thanks for reading and offering your suggestion nanana1. :)
