As per title, ess v6 antispam module was recently updated and since then outlook express will take some 30seconds or longer to close after clicking the close button it never used to have any delay closing ,Why keep breaking stuff ? I can no longer scan /filter traffic via firefox because any secure web page fails to load, and then there's the ongoing memory leak issue v4 had very little wrong with it

My suggestion would be to stop adding bloat to smart security, sure if you want to offer stuf like ant theft ect, then have it as an option to add to the main programe instead of including it with installer or pretty soon it will start having an impact on systems, and start to bloat

Hello tommy456...(A little about this and that)

I can really understand how frustrating it is when software, in this case Eset, does not function as it should on your system. And I do not write this to score cheap points. Software issues, as we all no, can be very frustrating and sometimes we can feel the neanderthal man pressing in our cortex. You write " stop adding bloat to smart security" . When a software, not just Eset is considered bloated, then it is based on a very subjective point of view, because those features as you and I considered as bloated, may be of other seen as very useful. And I can imagine, that it must be almost like " mission impossible" to please all users. I really like your idea, that you have under the installation, the possibility to choose features to add or remove , but I have the feeling that this can lead to different potential problems. Personally I see the new features to Eset Smart security/nod32 as ekstra secondary security tools that I can choose to activate or not. And as long Eset have a good stable detection-low false positives, and low impact on my system(s) , and for god sake don't add toolbars or other gadgets, then they will have me as a customer. (I don't know if Eset see this as a good thing :D :D )

    Regards, Janus

Outlook issue will get fixed asap. Memory leak issue will get fixed asap.

I can't say that it's getting bloated I mean everything ESET have added is useful features, plus it hasn't increased the system impact at all. If they would add stupid Gadgets, defraggers, tuneup, and stuff like that then I surely will stop using ESET right away. But I know that they probably never will wich is why I love them so much. And all the new feautres can be turned off permanently in the setup tree. Or you could download NOD32 and use your ESS license with it if you want less features but keep the main protection.

And start separating the modules into stand-alone ones, is a bad move, since having everything tightly integrated as it is now. Is a huge reason as to why there very rarely is any major problems with the software. And it's being so light on the system. So I really hope that will never happen. :thumbd:

The last update of the Antispam module was in June 2012:
    Antispam module: 1022 (20120601)
What module update are you referring to?

This would happen if you have no ESET root certificate or an invalid one installed in the list of Authorities certificates that Firefox uses. Try the following:
    - close Firefox and make sure it's not running using Task manager
    - disable SSL scanning and click OK
    - enabled SSL scanning and click OK
    - start Firefox and open a secured website

Nothing has changed in terms of SSL scanning for a quite long time.

The Outlook express problem i think i have resolved It was down to the Option Advanced heuristics/DNA/Smart signatures being selected Inthe TheatSense engine parameter setup something i know that i did not select,This setting was also applied to web protection and realtime proctection, So if these where set up by default after installation or they have recently somehow changed without my knowlage i don't know, but it would explain why i have been randomly experiencing laggy type performance issues even stuttering mouse curser movements or games &video stuttering down to eset hogging the cpu

The FF SSL issue only started last week, it had been working flawlessly since installation, the only thing that has changed is the eset updates,so i at a loss ,

The option of making modules seperate, i was primeraly referring to anti theft

As it's designed for laptop portable machines So for those that install to desktops it is not needed

Advance heuristics is crucial for detecting about 99% of threats so it's not a good idea to disable it, instead I'd suggest troubleshooting the issue further with ESET's assistance. Advanced heuristics shouldn't have noticeable impact on receiving email unless you regularly receive packed files where it might take seconds to scan attachments which is very unlikely to happen.

Anti-Theft is disabled by default and those who find it useful can enable it. It dos not change protection status to red nor does take additional resources if disabled.

I'm sure in version 5 it used to warn about the possibility of impacting system performance if enabled ? But with it disabled outlook express doesn't wait for 30-60 secs before closing, i so far haven't had the stuttering due to ekrn.exe hogging the cpu (randomly)

    Hi Tommy,

i had such Problems in the past with other secruity suites - Norton as an example which where not able to have a working plugin over 1 year or so.
Avast has such a plugin - but they removed the learning module - so click on spam is only moving a message to junk - but the filter is not working. Others simplay have no filter or it take a Long time to get mails and a Long time till they are analized.
ESET was more or less the only security Suite which is working as i want and that was the main reason to by a 5 users lizence.

I guess we - as users - have to live with that, that with a new Version also new bugs are coming to our System ;-).

But back to your Problem, maybe it will be helpfull for you (my Norton expiriance):
Try to find out the Name of the Outlook plugin.
Replace this plugin with a Version which was working.
From time to time you can try the bugfixed Versions otherwise stay with the old plugin. This has helped me over my licence time till they where expired - and then you can take a dicission with which Suite you want to stay in future.
    Good luck!
    Thorsten

The only difference between v5 and v6 in terms of advanced heuristics is that starting with v6, it's enabled on file execution by default. It shouldn't have any performance impact, at least not if you run a popular application regularly. Where exactly in the setup tree did you disable advanced heuristics that resolved the issue?

Advanced antispam module: 1175 (2013020:cool: BTW

After doing some more testing with the various settings Outlook express 6 closes instantly when Advanced heuristics/DNA/Smart signatures is unselected in the Email client protection (threatsense parameter setup) menu
But will close with a slight delay when is is selected , But gives a long delay if Allow advanced anitspam scan option in the AntiSpam protection menu is also enabled, Previous to this latest module (see above) there was never no long delay when trying to close down outlook express , But on the plus side when reading several messages (inbox) there used to be a delay in the next message opening, unless this option to "Allow advanced anitspam scan " was selected

The location that you asked me about ,is Real Time System Protection Then open the threat sense setup, & Disable the Advanced heuristics/DNA/Smart signatures option , The Scan on File execution option remains selected
