PRIVOXY and TOR Help.

I used to use Anonymizer Total Net SHield and was very happy with it. There was no degradation of speed on my internet connection and I had, what appeared to be, total anonymity on the web. I have a hard time justifying another 99.00 subscrtiption so went looking for alternatives. I tried TOR and PRIVOXY together and it worked, but surfing the internet became unbearably slow....made my 45.00 a month cable connection sort of useless. DOes anyone have any sugestions for a similar service that wont slow my connection?
