Printing question!

Hope this doesn't get bumped to the hardware forum as this seems to have the most traffic. I have a Canon ImageClass laser printer ethernet cabled to my router. I merely have to enter the ip of this networked printer and I can directly print from any PC on my network...but here is the kicker, it only prints Image, PDF (that is good) and PS file types. So how do I print text files? I'll hunt down a Canon forum and work there too but in the meantime anyone have a clue? Thank you!
