windows can do, but thats not really portable ^^ your question imply that you are working as admin and have full access to windows path - to bad, but thats your home made problem. install any decent full blown antivirus suite and your problem will be solved ^^
I want to be able to prevent anyone from modifying my hosts (only me) I know you can do it via permissions but not sure how? Do I leave it on System and edit like in the screenshot? I don't want a full blown suite, cause my PC is older and that would slow it down too much. NM, I figured it out If anyone does happen to find a portable app, i'd still be interested
Yes, "read-only" is a solution But even without setting it to read-only, all users have only read-access to this file (Allow: Read+Execute) and this file is already "secured" (only the administrator can modify it) There is a portable app that can set it to read-only with a single mouse-click and has some more options:
try set Permissions with this app which is very easy https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/ntfs-permissions-tools-free.309590/ http://dbcstudio.net/software/npt/main.html
