What exactly does portable mean. Does it install on to hard drive/registry

I have a fresh install of win 64 bit. I have Comodo Firewall and NAV 2012 as well as SpywareBlaster and WinPatrol. Do I need much more and if so what

Something messed up my installation and I want as few security programs as possible on it now. My suspicions are that MBAM may have caused conflict so I am wary of that

I would say you don't need WinPatrol or SpywareBlaster if you use COMODO and NAV. COMODO is more powerful than WinPatrol by far, and SpywareBlaster seems unnecessary.

Portable means it doesn't install to the hard drive, and I believe it won't leave leftovers in the registry.

but what about dedicated anti spyware prog. NAV is anti spyware to a certain extent but comodo is not. Is comodo a HIPS?

it writes to the registry doesn't it?

    Thanks

A "true" portable application shouldn't write to the registry, although a lot do.

I don't think there are many dedicated "anti-spywares" as most are anti-malware programs now. Even Norton AV will find spyware. I would try Malwarebytes again and try to solve why it is not working, because it is a fantastic program.

Here is a list of claimed portable anti spyware/malware apps I found.

I think at least some need installation to hard drive before being copied to a USB.
