Hi hardyhar, The port database is updated very occasionally or as the need arises.

    Hi Pilli,
I have had Port Explorer for quite some time now and have only recieved one update since I had had it. There was a post in another forum stating that it had been updated today. Just clarifing the update and wondering why I haven't got one using the update in the help button. Can you tell me when you got your last update please.

    Regards,
    hardyhar

    Hi Hardyhar,

    Sorry for interrupting:

Can you please tell us where that was posted?
Please give a link, if possible.

I hardly can imagine that there was today such an update:
    - it's weekend;
    - DCS is moving office.

    Thanks, Jan.

Here's the post. I'm thinking that Donna may have purchased PE and did the first update which would give you the database update. Just a guess....

Thanks for the link and info, Hardyhar: much appreciated !!!!!

Of course it is always possible that there was indeed an update (I think that I remember me that Pete and I got updates at different days once; not sure however whether I remember me that well).

But, as I posted above, I really hardly can imagine that during the weekend, and in particular in this weekend while DCS was just moving office, there was indeed an update....
Look at TDS-3 for example: it is really extremely rare that during a weekend there is an update.

I guess it would be best to try to contact Donna.
I'll try it, but I seem to have connection problems at the moment...
So if you, or someone else could contact Donna: please ! ;)

    Cheers, Jan.

Thanks FanJ for your reply. ;)

I'm working on trying to contact Donna and check every so often to get a update too thru PE.

    Hello FanJ and fellow members,

I just spoke with Donna and she indeed got an update on 7/09/05.
    Time Stamp: July 9th 2005 4:13:40am PDT
She said that this was the 3rd update that she had received since she purchased PE 2.0 months ago.

I'm puzzled as to why I have only got just one update since I had PE 2.0.

Any comments would be much appreciated. :D

That update was sitting on the DCS server and can be picked up at anytime.
I cannot remember the last port update I had :)

    Hi,

I am not sure what is going on...
So I will give all the info on my W98SE system.
    Port Explorer version 2.000

    domains.dat
    Size : 4.663 bytes
    Date : 26-July-2002
    MD5 : f274aff6b2e596bf394d4509277fbf61

    ip.dat
    Size : 472.134 bytes
    Date : 24-Aug-2004
    MD5 : d4c3c471995a0c455a1e7ddef45fde62

    ports.dat
    Size : 54.671 bytes
    Date : 11-Sept-2003

    To add to the confusion:

On my win98se system i didn't get an update and have the same versions Jan posted.

On my XP system however i got updates for the
    ports.dat
    size 55.657 bytes
    modified 10 july 2005

    domains.dat
    size 4.663 bytes
    modified 10 july 2005

    ip.dat
    size 354.954 bytes
modified 27 august 2003 (so that was not updated today either).
Think this ip.dat is the version Jan mentions in his posting below? so no need to search for that Jan, as you have a newer version already!

    On the win98se
    ip.dat
    size 472.134 bytes
modified 24 august 2004 which is newer and larger!

    Hi Jooske,

    About ip.dat :

    From Wayne's posting at August 27th, 2003
    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=12937
Well, I have tried to look at the members-area for such a file, but I cannot find it. Maybe my fault, I don't know...

    Hi,

    My versions.
    98SE
    PE v2.000

    Modified: 8/24/04
    MD5: D4C3C471995A0C455A1E7DDEF45FDE62

    ports.dat

    Modified: 1/1/05
    MD5: 3EA0711E0FEDBE3071F4D0AD9E9C0366

Same versions as Jan except for ports.dat. No update available to me, and just as Jan, no ip.dat to be found in the members area, either, although I would expect that is included in the 2.000 version. But that does not appear to be the case with Jooske's version.

Adding more confusion, instead of answers, I'm afraid. :(

Even though our timestamps differ, we seem to have the same filesizes?
Maybe i've overwritten the ip.dat with an older one longer ago, without noticing.
I'm thinking of overwriting to the newer versions (the largest anyway) to each other, although i'll keep a copy just in case.

Thanks for your info, VV; much appreciated !!! :D

    General questions:
    1.
Are the download links for domains.dat and ports.dat publicly available, or only for licenced users?
    2.
If they are publicly available, what are they?

    Jooske,

Concerning the time stamp on the files on my system, I reformatted this computer over the Christmas holidays, so that is probably when it was updated.

Could this be a server issue?

    Hi,

That's one of the possibilities that I too was thinking of.

I hope Wayne or Gavin will jump in in the coming days.

    Hello FanJ,

Does this here apply to PE 2.0 just for the ports only, correct.....

    Hi hardyhar,

My guess would be "no" because of the different formats:
    portref.txt versus ports.dat
I suppose that PE would have a problem reading that file (I haven't tried it).
    (Have you tried to read ports.dat in a text-viewer ;) ).

    Portref.txt is for TDS-3.

However, both give more or less the same kind of info.
So you would think that DCS could use the basic info for both of them.

I really would like that Wayne or Gavin would come to this thread.
But we have to keep in mind the different time-zones and that DCS just moved office.

    Cheers, Jan.

Ahhhh yes, you do refresh my memory now that you mention TDS which I also use. ;) That's why I bookmarked that page. :D

I haven't tried that yet FanJ.

I'm going to hang tight and wait for Wayne or Gavin to step in. Time is on my side. :D

    Thanks and Regards,
    hardyhar
