    Hi devinb,

    Welcome to Wilders.

Download CWShredder as you will need it later.

Download LSPfix as you will need it in a later step also.

Before you start, please unzip or move HijackThis to a separate folder of its own. The program will make backups in the folder it's in. These easily get lost in a temporary folder or a folder with other programs.

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.2020search.com/search/9884/search.html
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://search.shopnav.com/apps/epa/epa?cid=shnv9884&s=

Run CWShredder. Be sure ALL other windows are closed and use the Fix button and follow the instructions you will receive.

Run LSPfix. Check "I know what I am doing." and move all instances of "inetadpt.dll", and ONLY "inetadpt.dll" to the remove pane, then click finish.

There also may be hidden files. See HERE for how to show hidden files.

Then reboot into safe mode and delete:

    C:\PROGRA~1\SEARCH~1\ <-- entire folder
    C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\ <-- entire folder
    c:\windows\system32\inetadpt.dll
C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe <-- Only the one in this folder.

Reboot and then post a fresh HijackThis log.

    Regards,
    Kent

    Hi devinb,

Before you start, please unzip hijackthis to a separate folder. The program will make backups in the folder in the folder it's in.
These easily get lost in a Temp folder.

Check the items listed below in HijackThis, close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://search.shopnav.com/apps/epa/epa?cid=shnv9884&s=
    O1 - Hosts: 207.36.196.189 ieautosearch
    O1 - Hosts: pe.com
    O1 - Hosts: 207.36.196.189 ieautosearch
    O1 - Hosts: pe.com
    O1 - Hosts: 207.36.196.189 ieautosearch
    O1 - Hosts: 207.36.196.189 search.netscape.com
    O1 - Hosts: 207.36.196.189 search.netscape.com
    O1 - Hosts: 207.36.196.189 auto.search.msn.com

    Then reboot and read:

according to your last log you still haven't done the windows updates you were told to do including SP1 which might well fix that problem

If you do not carry out ALL the steps we ask you to do we cannot help you any further. Once all the routine cleaning and updates are dealt with then we can start to look at curing any problems that they don't solve

You can also try the fix here which might have some relevance to your problem, but do the updates first.

If you have unknowingly bought an illegal copy of windows then complain to M$

they are the only ones able to help you

until you get a legal version of windows and do the updates there is nothing else we can do for you as no fixes will work without the updates from M$
