I've never had a serious infection, use NOD32, a couple anti-spywares, mostly surf sandboxed and always safe! However, having said that, this person instructs the owner of the infected PC to use a number of applications I've never heard of, including: RSIT, SDFix, OTCCeanIT, and OTMoveIt. So three questions: Were all of these steps necessary? Have you ever heard of those apps? Would it be a good idea to print and/or save the link to those instructions for worse case scenario? Thank You!

    - More than likely, he be a helper, he knows his **** :)

Have you ever heard of those apps?
    - Yes I have, specialist tools called upon when needed.

Would it be a good idea to print and/or save the link to those instructions for worse case scenario?
    - Only if you know what you do. In worst case scenario I'd do a format or ask in specialist forum for removal help

Ya, they are tools to remove hard malwares, especially rootkits. I don't think that best solution is to format always and anyways, but I agree that if the system is deeeply infected by multiple malwares or rootkits, to format the system is the better surety to delete really all.

    - Yes

Have you ever heard of those apps?
    - Yes. Don't use them yourself though as it can be dangerous

    - No. If you have malware problems go post on a Malware Removal forum. The instructions for each user are always different. A step that worked for him, wont necessarily work for you

    Hope that helps
