    Hello

I installed Returnil 2nd Feb, and since then, my pc cannot retain saved files / system restores etc. (I can save a file, and then when I switch the pc back on, it's not there)

I used Revo to remove Returnil (which hasn't removed anyway as my pc is reverts back to every configuration from 2nd Feb (even my Firefox pages load to that day)
I have turned off system restore, then restored back a couple of weeks to be on the safe side, but when I reboot, it's back to 2nd Feb.

I can't be certain, but I feel Returnil has caused these problems - I hadn't installed anything else, or done anything out of the ordinary on the 2nd.

Has anything like this been raised on here previously? Does anyone have any ideas on how to go forward please? (remember that what ever I do prior to reboot is reversed when I switch back on though)

    Thanks Tara

Thankfully I've now solved my problems by 'last known configuration' which then allowed me to do the system restore that I couldn't do before.

Returnil is totally gone after removing all traces from program files / registry.

    Many thanks

    Hi Tara100

That will probably be because you had System Safe switched on - this is part of the controllable functionality of RVS.

If you're considering a re-install, I would take a look at the FAQ here and familiarise yourself with the System Safe feature and how to retain files with the feature switched on.

Hi Tara100 and welcome to the forums. When installing or uninstalling RVS, it is important to make sure that all other security programs are temporarily disabled. Some programs (like disabling the Avast "providers" for example) may require you to go deeper into the program's configuration to ensure there is no interference.

If RVS is installed already, you must deactivate the System Safe virtualization to:

    1. Install Microsoft/Windows updates
    2. make backups and images
    3. restore to an earlier time
    4. defragment your hard drives.

    The process is simple:

Turning RVS System Safe virtualization off (if GUI available):

    1. Open the RVS program
    2. On the main screen, in the System Safe section, make sure that the link displays "Disable when I start Windows". If the l;ink shows as "Enable...", simply click the link to change it to "Disable..."
    3. Restart your computer

This will change the RVS shield symbol in tray icon and toolbar from red to green.

    Mike
