Yes, the Pirate Browser only uses Tor for selected websites

And some (maybe many) people are getting it, and thinking that it's just a "pirate" version of Tor Browser Bundle.

That is seriously messed up!

Seems pretty clear what the browser is not used for. It's about circumventing censorship, which is one of the underlying goals of the Tor Project.

If that FAQ said "The Pirate Browser only uses Tor for selected websites. If you want anonymity, use the Tor Browser Bundle." it'd be clear.

But they don't say that, so it's not clear. The closing comment about using a VPN is just off-the-wall crazy irresponsible.

The whole point of using the Tor Browser Bundle is having everything go through Tor. Promoting a browser bundle that uses Tor, but doesn't route everything through Tor, is incredibly misleading. People (potentially many people) will be hurt by this.

 

Being fair, most people would assume it was the TBB, also being fair they do state otherwise on the front page but many will be too lazy to read that.

 

They've updated the FAQ to say that it's not TBB
