Phishing and Spoofing protection

For phishing and spoofing protection which free software is better.

SpoofStick
PhishGuard
SiteHound( for IE only)
Or Any other( pls name)

I can well understand that common sense and playing it wisely is most important but just want to choose one free software as well.

 

i use Firefox so sitehound is not an option.

i couldnt get the key to work with phishguard so i couldnt try it.

when i tried fraudeliminator it didnt work as well as i would have liked so byebye.

spoofstick is what i currently use and i like it very much. it has a clean and simple look. sometimes if i mistype google.com or teh domain, itll popup an alert.

theres also siteadvisor and netcraft toolbar, but idk how much they qualify as antiphishing.

i tried netcraft toolbar (firefox) and its a good looking tollbar, but it also messed with the window appearance sometimes.

i like siteadvisor (firefox), but it conflicts with organize status bar so off it went.

 

As a foreigner (Belgium), I don't need such protection.
I delete all my spam-emails, including the phishing emails.
I don't participate in websites, where money is involved, except Paypal, which was a piggy bank for my free lotto winnings. I will probably use that money for buying softwares or donations. So that account will be empty very soon and won't be used anymore, because I stopped playing on free lottos.
Besides that, my identity data doesn't fit in most foreign websites.
My only weak point is my Visa Card and that bothers me.
I didn't use it yet (except Paypal to open my account), but I will need it in the future to buy softwares.

 

the google and earthlink toolbars also have some anti-phishing, but i find the normal toolbar features like search useless.

 

I use it on firefox but it does not give any pop up, will just tell the site u are surfing.

 

Have had good luck with Netcraft on Firefox 1.5.0.2 (Windows) and 1.0.8 (Linux)

Had bad time with Netcraft on IE 6 (really slowed it down, terrible!)

Had good luck with Spoofstick on Firefox 1.0.7 (is no longer recommended, not available for Firefox 1.5.0.2)

Had good luck with Spoofstick on IE 6

Had bad time with Earthlink on IE 6 (VERY "noisy")

P.S. I use Opera mostly now, but also use Firefox (is my default browser esp. for email links). If concerned about a site I encounter in Opera, I hit the "InFF" button.

I use mailwasher free (I made a donation) and it does a great job of identifying spam, including phishing.

I try not to maintain standing accounts at internet commerce sites by not signing up for a login and password if offered. This helps a lot!

not true. the latest v1.06 of the toolbar is compatible with firefox 1.5.x

Many thanks for the note! When I last upgraded Firefox to 1.5.0.2, it checked the Corestreet toolbar (probably at the Mozilla site) which was disabled and said it was still not available. Based on your statement, I went to corestreet.com and found indeed that it is available, directly from Corestreet. It is now running on Firefox again!

Also, the note " ... is no longer recommended ..." you quoted refers to Firefox version 1.07.

I dont know whther you might consider using roboform for such transactions Erik?.I use it for banking sites and paying at paypal etc.It has an anti phishing feature (check url) that only fills in sensetive data such as credit card numbers if the site matches the url thats stored in roboform.I find roboform one of the best purchases i ever madeIt also works with firefoxm,seamonkey etc (not opera though).

Is the spoofstick popup just a feature on IE ?.Im using spoofstick with firefox and no such pop up or option to enable it is visible.

its a firefox popup (im using safire theme).

its pretty difficult to get such a popup to show. i dont even remember how i found that link.

 

Sorry I mean I can,t see any pop up sample posted by u( in Opera or Firefox).

 

oh, well its hosted on imageshack. check ur HOSTS file or adblock.

Don,t know for some reason I can,t see it in firefox( even disabled ad-block) and Opera. IE just showed a rectangle with a cross in it but no link.

BTW its really hard to guess the effectiveness of these appliances as most of persons here are already well informed with safesurfing.
I never saw a real tests or reviews on these except for once in PC world.

 

Have you right clicked your toolbar-customise and dragged the spoofstick icon to an area of you toolbar?

 

I have.I dont see any helpfiles at spoofstick site or reviews that mention that it shows a popup other than the address either.Very weird.Im wondering whetehr the popup is actually from firefox rather than spoofstick? , though i cant say ive had one from firefox either ,though.

I only use Firefox browser... installed with SpoofStick, Site Advisor and Google anti-phising. They are not annoying and didn't affect my internet speed.

 

WSFuser! I think the pop up is from firefox, not from spoofstick. Ellison 64 is right.
I jsut received a similar pop up on Opera but I am sorry I forget to capture it. I will try eo reproduce it.

 

i guess it could be from firefox, but i didnt know it had any antiphishing features.

i know firefox can warn for mismatching SSL certificates, but thats about it.

Im using firefox and havent seen that either.Im pretty certain that it isnt a spoofstick popup either though.Im sure someone will come along who knows a little more about it though ,and can confirm one way or the other.
