Yeah, I suppose it might take a few days before whichever server(s) that handle updates through the program are, well, updated. You always have the option to download the file manually, of course. The new versions can typically be installed right over old versions.

So, is the editor going to be freeware? I doubt it, but I haven't seen anything that confirms or denies that.

I read through the thread from the posted link and saw this:
So it may not be free. Although there might be a free version with less features.

I was also looking for in and found the answer in another thread:
    http://www.tracker-software.com/forum3/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=17339#p70617

"There will be a free release of the Editor as there is the Viewer."

Changelog for 212 is there now.

-Fixed rare crash of the Viewer on some JPEG streams. (T# 1924)
-Changed touch/stylus handling in pencil tool. (T# 1911)
-Fixed typos in the Viewer UI.

Also, PDF XChange Editor has been released (3.0.304). Has anyone made any comparisons to the Pro Viewer?

The editor works great and I'm glad that Tracker Software finally released one. I was finally able to get rid of the inferior editors I've been using. A big plus that my PDF-XChange Viewer key works with PDF-XChange Editor. :thumb:

I still prefer PDF-XChange Viewer for reading. I also haven't found a way to customize the toolbars in PDF-XChange Editor. I like smaller icons and want to re-arrange the toolbar order.

Thanks for the heads up. Editor installed seamlessly. This is probably a dumb question, but does Editor essentially replace the need for the viewer pro?

My understanding is that they are still ironing out a few kinks in the Editor. For example, the current version does not support XFA.

Purportedly the free version of the Editor will replace the free version of the Viewer while the paid version of the Editor will replace the PRO version of the Viewer.

So, yes, the paid version of the Editor (Editor PRO?) will obviate the need for Viewer PRO.

After installing the free editor, all my pdf files were then accessible from the free editor instead of my paid for Viewer pro. It wasn't until I accessed my Viewer Pro, and it asked me if I want Viewer Pro to be my default viewer, and having clicked yes, all my pdf files are now accessible from Viewer Pro again. Going to Editor you can access all pdf files individually. Cool. So my next question is, will a purchase of Editor Pro erase Viewer Pro automatically upon installation, or will Viewer Pro remain, not able to update any longer.

What does a PDF editor do exactly? Can you fix typos and insert or delete graphics like with Word? If someone who uses the editor wouldn't mind commenting I'd really appreciate it.

Yes, that's exactly what you can do with PDF-XChange Editor.

    Appreciate it 0strodamus.

There are two download buttons on the page Adric linked to, they both download the same file. It's the free version with limited features which you can then upgrade to Pro if you want. I say 'limited' because you can use all the features I think, but when I tried the Edit Content Tool it said unless you have the Pro version it'll leave a Demo(!) label in all the pages. I tried it and found you can delete text and images without any consequences but if you add anything new you get two big nasty Demo logos at the top of every page.

So basically the free version's useless as far as I'm concerned. I do hope they make a free version with full-functional content editing. It seems like a pretty nice editor and would be a handy tool, but for now I'll just keep using Word.

I agree. Messing with other people's content is unacceptable. Who do they think they are?

These days I use Sumatra PDF for viewing, pdfFactory Pro for creation. The latter is an excellent piece of software that deserves more attention than it's currently getting:

If folks download the new Editor manual, it explains in detail about what you can expect when you install Editor. Basically if your Viewer says Pro in the upper right hand corner of the pop up when you click about, you will get the Pro Editor when you insert the viewer registration key while installing Editor. My key was inserted automatically during installation. If you're not using Viewer Pro, you will get the free Editor.

I wouldn't be so negative yet, let's see how this plays out. :)
