It seems, there are no viable alternatives anyway, so I have to stick with the Editor. Oh well, at least menu can be disabled, so it looks nice and clean.

I still use old installer and use built-in updater to update it to latest version. I haven't decided yet what I'll be using if they stop updating it that way (free editor or some other app).

Well they say, it has been discontinued. And using an outdated PDF reader, with all those PDF vulnerabilities around, is not such a good idea.

I noticed that PDF XC has changed as I used to use the portable. For a long time it was my default but for over a year now I've run Sumatra. I really recommend Sumatra.

Yes, but last update was available through built-in updater, although installer was not available any more. I guess that they decided to release updates for Viewer also.
So far it has been updated to .317 version which is last stable version. I hope that they will release updates for Viewer in future also.

EDIT: I also found out it can still be downloaded here: https://www.tracker-software.com/product/pdf-xchange-viewer

I switched from Foxit to Nitro, but Nitro is slow and heavy. I need only a PDF reader, which is the lighter ?

Adobe Reader, though most of the time, the PDF opens in the built-in reader for GoogleChrome, so there's no need to open Adobe.

Their website says PDF Xchange Viewer is discontinued, replaced with PDF Xchange Editor. I am running it now.

For what it's worth, Adobe Reader DC has finally added a Dark Gray theme (View>Display Themes) in today's update. It looks quite nice. Does anyone running the traditional Adobe Reader 11.x know if today's update also included this dark gray theme?
