I kept my PCLOS MiniMe 2008 updated, the 2009 update is working nice and fast.

I figured thats why you left....:ouch: From what I understand there's no x64 in the plans :(

USA still the best. But barely.
No x64 is a bummer. Still I'll have to try the LiveCD. Thanks for the heads up.

Till x64 Ubuntu came out, PCLOS remained my distro of choice, it was fast, worked out of the box and had minimal issues lagging but I do understand that its not easy to develop and maintain couple of releases for a one man team. It still remains an excellent distro.

Yep, it was my first distro that had it all out of the box, before Ubuntu. Still a favorite, but likewise, I wish it was x64.

PCLOS is up there as one of my fave distros. I might give the livecd a go.

Oh this is really nice :)

Am using it to post this. Loaded up the livecd, internet works and the printing is SO easy to configure. Why can't they all be like this? :) :)

KDE 3.5 is close to the end (it is rock solid), you're a Gnome-head, could you maybe test the 2009.1 Gnome version instead ?

    Hi all,

First, PCLinuxOS 2009.1 is a blast!

I've written a very detailed review and tutorial of PCLinuxOS 2009.1 release, including both Gnome and KDE editions, covering topics like Wireless, Web camera support, digital camera support, iPod support, lots of multimedia stuff, like Flash, MP3, Windows video codecs, video recording and converting, proxy configuration, Samba sharing, NTFS support, unique applications including remastering, restore MBR, privacy utilities, Gmail support, installation, and much, much more.

I wanted to review KDE, you asked for Gnome - you get BOTH!

This is probably my most indepth review so far, alongside SUSE and Ubuntu. It took me quite a bit to write this thing (approx. 14 hours of work, 50 images in the article!), so feel free to comment and flatter and do spread a word, will ya? PCLinuxOS is a great distro!

    Have most fun:

    Cheers,

P.S. Longboard, I'm counting on ya!

Now you know why I asked for the Gnome review :D

Hopefully they'll get the negatives sorted out ;)

Once again you did a nice job :thumb:

    Hmm, o_O

Longboard is a PCLOS rookie compared to the Fast-one :D just kidding

Hey I found sort of an un-fair error in the review. You said the KDE version was confusing for having two control panels (PCLOS control & KDE control), the Gnome version is the same except it comes with the standard Gnome control panel instead of KDE.

Did not notice it. Gnome control panel? What's Gnome control panel?
We're probably on "lost in translation" here, but I would not call the entire section under system a control panel ...

I have tested pclos2007 when it was released, thought it was a very unprofessional distro.

Well everyone has different experience i guess, never liked mandrake/mandriva either but still felt it was way better then pclos. Maybe it has changed with the new version but after reading a lot of reviews it doesn't seem like it.

    Well...maybe "lost in translation"

In Ubuntu you have the Gnome control panel and thats it, in Kubuntu you only have the KDE control panel....or am I lost ?

PCLOS has the Mandriva/PCLOS Control Center + the KDE/Gnome Control Center.

I guess my question would be why one is more confusing than the other, except for the fact KDE has more options (to confuse) than Gnome.

    andb,

All reviews I read were good. Can you link one bad?
Furthermore, why don't you dedicate 2-3 hours and try it?

Fast, screenshotize me please? Put a pic and we will have no doubts then.

Give us an example of professional distro so we can compare, or we can know what neck of the woods you hang...

But that's in Mint! Not in PCLinuxOS! You don't have that kind of thing in PCLinuxOS. That's a Mint thing and it's specific to that distro :)

Mrk, I've not used every distro on earth, that Gnome Control Center is in my PCLinuxOS Gnome. It's on every PCLOS Gnome LiveCD preceding the 2009 release.

    but

I don't have the 2009.1 LiveCD, as you know PClinuxOS is a rolling release and mine is the 2008 version fully updated to 2009.1. It still has that control center just like the original LiveCD ISO.

Maybe my update didn't remove the control center ? I'll download the 2009.1 ISO ;)

If that Gnome panel is removed from the 2009.1 ISO....then my mistake, sorry.

    [edit] I found this http://linuxgator.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=1642&p=9032&hilit=Gnome Control Center#p9032

Guess my update is broke  cuz it should have removed the Gnome (Linux Mint) Control Center.

Hey, I could be mistaken. I'll check later. Considering I play with 10-12 distros at any given time and my mind is close to exploding with linux, it's me who could be mistaken! Will check later.
