hello, i am experiencing problems with my on/off button to my pc. I understand Acronis disk director needs to reboot the machine to begin re partioning. If the pc accidently shuts down at this point , will MANUALLY starting the pc imediately after shutting down partitioning cancel the whole partioning operation? can anyone help

DD only needs to reboot to make partitioning changes if you run DD in Windows and the partition(s) affected can't be locked (the Windows partition, for example).

If you boot to the DD CD and do the changes, you don't need to worry about DD rebooting. It's generally safer this way too because you have control over the procedures.

If the PC shuts down during any partitioning changes, expect the drive to be corrupted. It's highly recommended to have an Entire Disk Image backup of the drive prior to beginning any partitioning changes.

Use the Media Builder program included with DD to create the DD CD. The program can be found in the DD menu (under the Start menu) or you can access it from the Tools menu of DD.
