OK, the process MudCrab describes is perfect (miner differing opinions) from my own independent research, with one clarification needed.

One Question remains: How do I completely Wipe [not over-wright] such a "new/different hard drive" once used, of all data for fully clean use on a subsequent test (as above described)

@MudCrab, Your help was and is much appreciated. Good website too!

    Thanks, Diligent

Wiping a drive is over-writing it. Wiping will write data to the drive. It may be just zeros or it may be random data. It may be in a single pass or multiple passes.

If you really require a "fully clean" drive, then you can do a complete zero-wipe of the drive. However, I find that to be an extreme waste of time for testing. I usually just delete the partitions, start a drive zero-wipe, let it run for a few seconds, cancel it, and then zero-out the MBR.

That being said, unless you're testing boot managers, you really just need to either zero-out the MBR or delete the partitions and change the Disk Signature.

Thanks MudCrab. Will study your info. Thought there was a wipe process where all data was erased, as opposed to just overwriting data on a disk.

    Appreciated, Diligent
