Many, many years ago I posted about a little tool "Ninotech Path Copy 4".
I used it for many years on a 32-bit Windows system. But it is not for 64-bit.
Very recently I found "Path Copy Copy" which may be considered as its successor, and it works on 64-bit (well, it does on my Win 7 Pro 64-bit).
I tried to search on the forum to see whether it was previously mentioned, but I couldn't find it (or I did not search good enough; that could very well be the case).

It gives you a right-click context file menu option on a file from where you can easily copy its name or path as Short Name or Long Name, and more. Very, very handy tool!
I needed a quick tool to get the Short Name of a file.

I am sure that there are lots of other ways to do it.

    Site:
    http://pathcopycopy.codeplex.com/

    The site has screenshots etc.

    So far I like it.

FileMenu Tools has a similar feature, plus many other useful context menu add-ons. I love it, but the installer may try to install some crapware (if connected to the internet), so be careful to uncheck all those boxes if you decide to try it.

    Hi pajenn,

NOD32 gave a warning at that site and blocked
    hxxp://www.windows8downloads.com/img/awards/award_pick.png
Reason : Blocked by PUA blacklist
That's probably related to what you said about crapware, although it seems to be just a picture .png ; hmm...

PS: I have changed the link from http into hxxp (and it is put in plain tags).

Does Windows "Copy To folder" and "Move To folder" is not suitable?

    Hi kaljukass,

I for myself am mostly interested to get quickly a file (or folder) long and short filename and path by right clicking, and that is what Path Copy Copy does for me. I'm very happy with it (in the past I used Ninotech Path Copy 4 for that). Path Copy Copy can do more than that, but it are those features that I want and like. It has a settings menu where you choose what you want.

    Copy To folder

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\CopyToFolder]
    @="{C2FBB630-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}"

    Move To folder

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\MoveToFolder]
    @="{C2FBB631-2971-11D1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}"

Copy these codes to Notepad and Save as => All Files (.*.) => Unicode =>CopyToFolder.reg
    and the second MoveToFolder.reg
Then double click on file and OK - OK and done.

    Thanks FanJ,

This functionality is available in the file manager I use but it is hidden among many other options in a long drop-down menu,
apart from which I can never remember keyboard shortcuts.

This makes the whole thing SO much simpler and significantly reduces the nuisance factor even if I only need it infrequently.

    Version 17.0.1 released - 9 Sept 2019

    https://github.com/clechasseur/pathcopycopy/releases/tag/v17.0.1

    Quoting from there:

Quick bugfix release for 17.0 that fixes an important issue with custom commands and Expert Mode (#87). Otherwise similar to 17.0 - see release notes below.

The first release in almost a year, version 17.0 of Path Copy Copy is shock-full of features and bug fixes, including:

    • Switch .NET requirement to .NET 4, which is readily available on modern OSes (#64)
    • New Expert Mode for custom commands to allow never-before-seen configurations (#5)
    • Adaptative shortcuts for menu items to avoid clashes (#57)
    • New wiki containing long-needed documentation

and more! The full list of features and bug fixes included in this release can be found in the GitHub milestone.

This is a much-recommended upgrade for all users. Additionally, this version will be the last Path Copy Copy major version to support Windows XP. As support for Windows XP has been dropped by Microsoft already and new features require more modern OSes, this is an acceptable tradeoff.

    End of quotes

    Notes by me:
At the moment I haven't yet upgraded. I'm still on version 16.0.1. Some time later (probably in a few days) I will try the new one.
