paid vpn service recommendation as of october '14?

Thanks, Mirimir. I actually like Cryptostorm, it's just the uncertainties associated with it that will probably rule it out for me to take a punt on.

Does anybody have thoughts on riseup.net's VPN? Looks good to me and they a very solid reputation as far as I know

 

Their old one was pretty good... not sure about their new one, they've totally revamped it.

 

it seems ipvanish just vanishes into thin air right after you subscribe to their service though. just check out their forums, there's always someone complaining how their account isn't activated even several days after purchase. it's like support is nonexistent, so to say.

Mirimir is female? NordVPN is getting some excellent reviews, apparently they are based in Panama - well known for corruption, unlike the UK, which is squeaky-clean.

I never used it for heavy data transfer, they offer 'only' two locations (Seattle & NYC), but for normal internet usage it's adequate. I don't get a dedicated ip as described in the docs, they give me an ip in the private 172.16.0.0/12 address space. In rare cases the server refused to use AES128-CBC (AES256-CBC is not available) and wanted to use Blowfish instead.

I don't have a black account which you need for the bitmask vpn, so i can only talk about their legacy openvpn service.

 

What do you think about ovpn.to? For 10 Euro/month you get openvpn (control channel TLSv1.2, cipher TLSv1/SSLv3 DHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384, 4096 bit RSA), stunnel, SSH2, proxy, 2 Mailboxes 'AnoMail Beta', access to usenet and 'pyLoad One-Click-Host Downloader with many OCH'. I think it's based in Romania, they accept all kind of coins. VPN Servers are in Germany, Switzerland, France, Hungary, Latvia, Moldova, Netherlands, Romania, Russia, Turkey and one in Missouri.

Can't say I needed their helpdesk at all. I was only with them for a month, was testing out tunnelling VPN's. From what I saw they were cool. I suppose if people kick up a fuss, then they can't be that good.

That indicates a single-person operation. Or chaos and/or cluelessness. Or all three But single-person operations do have a sort of security advantage.

I do not know, I do not use those services. Maybe ask in their forum.

We will be moving our company out of Malaysia to Seychelles but maintain our Malaysian entity for our local customers (to retain online banking).

 

no offense but i always thought bolehvpn shoulda been relocated to a more pro-democracy and less pro-censorship country. many wilders users are concerned about malaysian legal system from the point of privacy. there's little known about malaysia in this regard. it's a closed country, so to speak.
that's a great strategy for a growing vpn company. are you also planning any changes/innovations for client software?
it would be great if you let users choose what protocol and encryption method to use for each server rather than providing pre-configured choices.

Also french tv channels (used to?) block airvpn ip's, same goes for tv streaming sites like zattoo.

Yes, never had a problem with captchas when connecting to other vpn's. my current vpn forbids port forwarding on some of their servers, problem solved, and streaming isn't blocked either (i don't know about netflix/hulu).
