i am using the Audacious music player in both Linux Mint ans Win 8.
but the level is much louder in Mint.

i checked all the sound options in Win 8 but everything seems fine.

except if i check in the Sound/Playback the volume meter is only at about 25% or a little more.

Yeah, I noticed that in general, sound levels are different in Mint (and linux) than in Windows. I'm in Win 7 here, but I see a difference too. I have always assumed that it has something to do with sound driver differences... Hasn't really been a problem for me though.

    tnx Kerodo.

yeah, not a big problem for me either.

i just turn the volume to 70% or until the speakers start to bleed. ;)

i also had the low sound level issue when i switched to windows 8.

i had to enable the option below (loudness equalisation) to get it back to more normal levels.

    right.

tnx treehouse, i'm gonna try this.

though i'm not too crazy about the idea of having some compression algorithm dictate the dynamic of the music i listen to.
    ----
    edit:
    i tried it.

it messes up the music real bad.
the dynamics are all wrong. :ouch:

might be ok for Rhianna or Eminem but for Pink Floyd or Crack The Sky, not so much. ;)

I think this started with Vista. It was one of the reasons nobody wanted to leave XP.

If you guys would listen to Lisa Gerrard you wouldn't have these issues.

This is probably a "duh" suggestion, but have you checked the volume level of the application itself (if it has one)?

    yes.

i have the volume at 85%.

more than that and it clips due to the Extra Stereo plugin.
i could use the built-in compressor but i am not too crazy about those things.
