As a new user and as I cannot access the help pages to find this out do I need to download this new version of the FW and install over the top or is it necessary to uninstall and reinstall - or does it automatically update in due course.

 

I don't believe it will update to the new vewrsion on it's own, someone may correct me. You can just install it over the top. It will ask you if you want to update your current version. I just did it without problems.

It will also offer to use your current settings or start over. I had it use my current settings.

That's correct. To update it, the user needs to make an install, which then will be asked to update the current version.
