Hello, I just built a computer for my nephew. Being only 12 years old, I don't expect him to understand configuration yet (as if I do) I don't want to hand over this computer yet unless it's completely set up for him. I'm having a problem with Outpost not prompting for rules for newly installed app requesting connection. All I see is this. Does anyone know what is wrong? I have it set at rules wizard.

Under the General tab in the Startup section, is it set in Background mode instead of Normal mode? That screen should appear as below. The Rules Wizard does not work in Background mode and they are independently specified.

    What's in the applications tab?

Did you check the hosts file?

This is a brand new windows install on a new HD. There is nothing (other than what setup put there) in the application "tab" unless I put it there as there are no prompts. The screenshot should speak volumes. It's only telling me an app requested an outbound connection - not offering any options. I have it set at rules wizard

I installed Flyakite's system file replacements: http://osx.portraitofakite.com/index2.htm(amazing site - you can drag and drop icons anywhere and the launch bar works! - try the "itunes")

Perhaps an antivirus is good enough. He'll be on dialup so maybe a firewall won't be necessary (just windows fw) What are your suggestions, if you don't mind.

Outbound protection is better. Did you try Outpost before installing Flyakite's system file replacement?

yes, but it would not affect Outpost in any way anyway. Perhaps something is corrupt. I'll try reinstall.

I would venture to say, "would not" as I have been using both for a long time without issues of conflict. I think perhaps Kerio 2.1.5 with BlitzenZeus default rule set, as suggested by Fastgame, would be more appropriate for a 14 year old with limited experience.

BTW, I reinstalled and the problem is solved. I will try kerio though. Thanks all for your inputs. As always, I appreciate the responses. :D

Good to hear it works! I haven't tried Kerio yet, still on my to-do list ;)
