Why choose a product with another Vendors engine, if you can use the original vendors product ?

Obviously i'm excluding multi engined products.

Although they may use another vendors AV engine, Price might be a factor if it happens to be cheaper and there may be other sercurity features included for that individuals requirements.

It kinda makes no sense, you'd think the original would be cheaper and updated.

Zonealarm is a good example. You love the firewall and want a realiable AV. Cheaper to get the KAV engine (even if it is more outdated in ZA) than buy the two products.

I dont really see the point clones that are just an older version with a different name on the interface. they are cheaper genrally thou. But the original is always better IMO espically with products such as kis and kav. the clones maybe cheaper but kaspersky offers free upgrades if you buy there own product so technically its cheaper overall.

My ISP previously offered Norton IS 07 while norton was already at 08.
It think security companies offer older versions for cheap.
