Does anyone remember when this forum first started? Was it in the 90's
I am wondering because I was here in the 90's. was it sold off in 2002 and that is why our start dates are newer? I know I was posting heavy here before 2001- 911
I was thinking my start date was closer to 1997. anyway it would be a date before the 1000th member joined and I was on dialup. took all night to download a 3 meg file and that is it stayed connected. I was addicted to security like some are addicted to their Iphones and facebook lol. I even got kicked out of a library once long ago, I am thinking 2001 for redoing their computers to be more secure, the lady just said I am obsessed with computer security. nice thanks after cleaning all the crap off. Damn that is along time ago :)

    Thanks

    Hello My old friend FanJ

I think all old people go down memory lane... maybe too much lol

Wow those were old classics you posted. Seems like yesterday.

I must be mixed up as to when I started then, all I remember is testing lots a software in the 90's and even still have the addiction to day but not as bad as it was back then. Are most of those old timers still here? Is what is your computer setup still the oldest still running thread? lol
It sure is fun to go back to the begining of that thread and look at the setups back then. Some were even afraid to post for fear of someone hacking them if their setup was known. Remember the MAgic LAntern thread?
Look how far our government has come since those days;-)
And we even thought we had spooks here on the forum back then.

    Hey controler,

Sometimes it is nice to go on memory lane ;)
Things change so fast, in particular on the internet and computers etc.

If I remember me well, the Wilders org site was there already long before the board started. It was rather famous in its time with reviews etc. Who remembers that one?
And who remembers the Secureye board (although it didn't have much traffic)? In some way both could be called, maybe, the predecessors of the forum.

Lots of things have been changed over the years; life changes, software and hardware changes, security and privacy changes. We haven't heard of many old friends; friends and members we miss so dearly!! New friends and members came; they are very welcome.

Maybe the oldest still running thread is Where in the Worldo_O?.

    Hi The Red Moon,

Some of us have sometimes contact with Paul, although maybe not so much as in the past. For example, I talked with him a few months ago on the phone. I think I would violate his privacy if I would say more, and I do not want to do so. Big thanks and all the very best to you Paul, very dear old friend.

On closing I would like to send my big thanks to LWM and the whole admin/mod team. You guys and gals are doing a super job! Big thanks to all the members too!!

Looks like you're correct Jan :thumb:
The earliest reference I can see on Wayback Machine was the forum of Wilders.org from 2000/01: -http://web.archive.org/web/20010410180446/http://www.wilders.org/forums.htm-

In 2003, it was a review on that site that led me to my first security software (Dr. Web).
I followed the link to the forum and instantly became addicted to security issues.
    It's been a great place.
