Comodo has double their market share :thumb:
Most of the "big" av's have lost market share.

So basically, a couple of months down the line, malware writers will start targeting MSE...

Seeing that many people use MSE makes me feel slightly dead inside.

A lot of people rather pay for high tech gadgets or more food than a paid antivirus these days. I like keeping an eye out on here to find a good deal or free promotion for software products on this site. I have scored a Bitdefender and Avast Internet Security licenses from legit promotions. I'm surprised that Zonealarm hasn't offered a free promotion for this year.

I know one national syndicated columnist has recommended Microsoft Security Essentials for a while. I have stumbled on a few articles from other writers that say why bother with a paid antivirus.

Since when does malware target an antivirus?

Does Comodo have a market share given that CIS is a free product? :D

This is an interesting survey long-term but it's hard to take short-term trends at face value as (a) OPSWAT themselves question the consistency of their sample and (b) the pool represents only users of OPSWAT products.

Even though I have not used it, I was surprised at the low market share for Trend Micro. I wonder if this percentage includes their enterprise software?

    From the Report:
"The data was collected using OPSWAT’s AppRemover and Am I OESIS OK? tools, which utilize the detection capabilities of the OESIS Framework to collect
information regarding the applications installed on endpoint computers."

So does this mean they determine market share by how many people have removed the software from there machines?

Also had paid versions, anyway if you understand "market share" as everybody else, yes they have it.
Or why do you think that avast is the biggest player? because of his paid version? :D

I had the same thought. The only people I know who've ever heard of OPSWAT or AppRemover have used it to remove Norton IS and AVG 2011.

    Interesting table.
I just wish Windows Live Messenger actually enabled the old nickname option, such a fail. I'll stick to Pre 2011 WLM version (2009)

As stated before on this forum, only users of their software are part of this market share. Therefore, the data isn't representative of the real world.

when you start from a low value it is pretty easy to increase, starting relatively high it is easier to lose part of your market share

what does this report do actually?:-if they did one with cars it would show Ford to have a far greater share of the market than Bentley or Ferrari but I know that I would rather own either of them than a Ford!It just seems pointless:-comparing Free products to Paid for products is like comparing apples to speedboats(you can't!)

    Good point !

    And :

That makes a lot of sense for the average user..
What about the products that are not listed here ?
Are they in "others" or in "We don't have data on this".

Does Wordwide include all antiviruses in China or India Europe etc or is that data not available?

Worldwide percentages on 2 digits makes me laugh,
tomorrow perhaps another will report completely different numbers that nobody can verify..

It like asking 1000 people one question and stating ..
the world population (billions) thinks that ...

I agree, I think this report looks bogus.
