does any one who uses mcafee have an opion on it's effectiveness. av-comparatives shows good results but i would like real life opinions from it's users.

    "ps is this thread allowed?"

Yes, but realize other peoples opinions won't really matter in the long run. They will be mostly subjective, and in the end you will still just have to form your own opinion.

Also it would help, if you could narrow down exactly what aspect you are asking about. That way you stand a better chance of getting a good answer.

Hi trekie, results are only part of the equation. Trial some and see what works good for you as I don't know what you have. There are no "best" of the lot. And remember, opinions are like a-holes, everybody has one. Good luck!

    Hi,

There are many many AV on the market.

If you trust one and it will be effective for you.

If you have any doubt, even a freeware will not hook you on.

You need to do a short-sleeved type test work, and to find your own love.

Others' opinions are for guides ONLY, after all , every PC is made differently and also is stuffed differently. And is your own PC at stake.

Hoping you to hear some constructive views re this app.

    Take care.

The Gamers I know won't touch it. But I'd have no problems using it.

The more respected testing labs show that McAfee is not top tier when it comes to detection. Older versions caused system slowdowns. On the positive side, I have run the enterprise versions from time to time and there were no compatibility issues, which is more than I can say for a lot of stuff.

You can get it for free via the Nat West bank. Probably a good deal.

    hmm, Mcafee

Its ok, I get it free with my ISP,

Falling standards at the Monet if you rely on test results, but their next version is supposed to be better.

Its not really light, but its no hog either, about average.

I would have no problems using it, but I just have other options that I prefer.

McAfee is ok. The only problem it has it is the several false-positives.

I scaned my external hard drive with norton and nod32. Both told me my hard drive was cleaned.

Then I scaned it with McAfee and... 129 infections

If you don't care so much about false positives, grab it. It is very nice.

However, if you hate false-positives, my best advice is to ignore McAfee.

I have been using macfee suite for about 5 months and have yet to have a single false positive.

It's an o.k. security suite...it works...it has room for improvements. Good free protection in my case.

i dont mind fp's to much as long as i decide the action to take. no auto deleting anything. quarantine i can tolerate barely. deleting i have heard horror stories in the news about certain av's having a bad update and trashing the system with false positives on system files.

    Re: opinions on macfee

that really does not sound like FP's

i suspect mcafee had a lot of PUP detections, which are basically riskware and should be judged by the user.

mcafee does not have a lot of FP's.
