I'd like to know your opinion about McAfee Firewall, 4.0 in particular.
    Thanks

I use mcafee firewall 4.0 and I like it very well It is one of only three personal firewalls certified by ICSA.With 4.0 You can trace an incoming intrusion attempts. You can block IP addresses If it matters to you it is a full stealth firewall I could go on but I will quit by saying it is a good firewall ;) and it does have an IDS module.

When I tried it, it seemed fine - but they should be more up-to-date with the leak tests.

Their firewall maybe good, but their Tech Support is non-existent. I started with a Mcafee firewall, had a problem, and contacted their Tech Support. Many hours later, I gave up. Solved the problem with ZA. Then I went to terminate, the auto renewal(mistake). That only took 3 emails, and 2 weeks.

PS Symantec is worse in this department.

McAfee firewall 4.0 is the same on that came with McAfee Virusscann v7? If so I tried and didn't like it at all. When I tried it there was no way of blocking server rights. It didn't even ask you if you want to block server rights to programs.

With mcafee support you don't have to e-mail them you can instant message them I have used it and it works very well. About the longest I had to wait was twenty minutes. Just pick your product and choose general questions and at the bottom of the page on the left side you will see the questions in the screen shot. Choose contact live technician and a IM utilitie will open.

I have never had them give me the old (It's your IP) But that is pretty standard reply from most firewall support personal not just mcafee. The problem I perceive is that they are either under trained Or have been told to get you off line as soon as possible. In either case it is a sad situation for a non free piece of software to have poor or non support. It might be expected a little more with free apps. But sometimes free apps have better support than there pay for use alternatives.
