It basically comes down to Chromium being a complete joke when it comes to protecting against malicious extensions. But this specific bug was only exploitable in Opera, and it has already been fixed since last year (November 2023). But still interesting to read and a good reminder not to install too many extensions. https://thehackernews.com/2024/01/opera-myflaw-bug-could-let-hackers-run.html
Of course, Opera tries to downplay the risk, but good to know that apparently they review ALL of the extensions on the Opera Extension Store. But they fail to mention that you can also download extensions from the Google Web Store. https://blogs.opera.com/security/2024/01/opera-misleading-headlines-myflaw-vulnerability/ https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/
Having experience with the Adguard extension I tend to think that some Opera Store extensions work better than Chrome Store extensions. Installed the same version of the AG extension from Opera and Chrome Stores with exactly the same setup and the Opera AG extension blocked more ads than the Chrome AG extension.
