Well, I'm not gonna say I told you so. :p

I feared the worst when I first read about Opera ASA abandoning Presto. I must say that I loved Opera, even with all of its quirks & faults. The nearest I can get to it now is Maxthon.

Bah! Just some PR spin to feed the gullible.

What I want to read is "we're adding bookmarks back in" and "we're working on a new e-mail client/RSS reader",

    Extensions != Built-in

How is that any different from using one of the many external RSS programs available?

While it's too early to sound the death knell for Opera yet,the signs look ominously bad with the direction it's going :(

    In the above mentioned link
    http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/opera-next-15-0-released?startidx=650#comment108214022
    more bad news:
other bad news from the same link:
    no opera:config
no bookmarks tree, instead, hundreds of your bookmarks are pushed into speed dial, what are they thinking of?!
no information in the bottom status bar
    no .ini files

For Windows XP, I can't find a browser that has site-specific settings as easy to set as in all Operas I know since v7, if they have them at all. I suppose Seamonkey/Firefox is it, but I find those confusing and complicated.

Incidentally, Opera already ruined Opera Mobile on Android in their May update, not that it was all that great before. Some reviewer already commented that it looks like Chrome. Another reviewer got an answer from Opera to revert to an older version 'if you don't like it'.

Will all the old extensions become incompatible? I love how Opera Mobile Labs supports many of them.

I think so. You can use Chrome extensions with 15.

If this is where Opera is headed, the browser I knew and loved is gone. I think I'm going to move on as I find in Maxthon a good, stable and usable browser. Now, if only they'd implement some hardware acceleration....

I'm really disappointed with all I've read about Opera 15.
    No url.ini files
    No opera.config
    No disabling JS.
    No bookmarks.
Opera as it stands is my favourite browser -- so why fix it when it ain't broke ??
I've turned off auto update on my opera 12.15 and will continue using it as long as possible, and when the time comes I will switch to Fire Fox.

Even with Auto-update disabled, the current 12.15 Opera.exe launches update checker few times a day, so I've been blocking it from running at all. Can be blocked in firewall or HIPS or whatever tools one has.
    C:\Program Files\Opera\updatechecker\opera_autoupdate.exe
Important now, since I'm afraid they'll try to push this new, flawed, creation.

Thanks for that tip, now update checker is blocked in my firewall too.

Wish that was the case with the current mobile apps. Oh well, I'll think about switching back to Firefox mobile when it can support bookmarklets like LastPass properly.

It's clear this is in the early stages and not quite formed yet, Which means it lacks features and functionality for the time being, but not forever.

I trust that Opera knows what they're doing and will soon implement the desired features and functionality the community is requesting.

These thing's take time to develop

I say stick around, See what happens

When Opera released their Next 15 I was decided to ditch it off my PC but a problem arose, which browser then. I hate Firefox from the very beginning, Chrome is updating often like an AV its definitions and becoming bloatware with each release, IE not from the principle and other I call them "alternative browsers" didn't impress me too, so ... I will stick with Opera 12.15 for the time being and will closely watch how new Opera develops, then decide.

Bookmarks bothers me less. On the contrary I like having them in form of speed dials. As for the M2 and RSS reader, it's painful ...

Says someone who probably doesn't have hundreds of bookmarks all perfectly organized into folders, sub-folders and maybe sub-sub-folders.

Speed Dial is no proper alternative.

And is much slower (performance and usability) than a list of bookmarks.

Well, while I don't have hundreds (at the moment lol), I do have a few dozens, organized into different folders, sub-folders. Maybe I'll reach the hundreds soon. :D

This...I did not expect. Hey Opera? You remember the things that made you different from the rest? Yeah...you were supposed to keep that. Fixy compatibility issues, no touchy "Opera stuff". I see one thing going for them, those that either never gave it much of a shot or never tried it might hop on. The bad news is that a nice percentage of longtime fans might drop them like a hot potato.

I hope it ends up being worth it.
