I think the 64 bit version is pretty good. The PortableApps version is working well. It seems fast & responsive.

I agree it easily seems to rival Chrome for speed, especially the 64 bit version.

Strange, I have not experienced that. (Maybe there is a difference in linux - who knows).

    Other points to consider:-

The cookie manager does not only show domains that store cookies but also domains on which you've changed something in the page (edit) preference (eg. turned off/on javascript).

You could also delete the cookies4.dat file either manually or with something like Bleachbit/CCleaner.

Are the bugs visible to anyone or does one have to have an account? The Firefox, Chrome, and Launchpad pages are accessible (with certain exceptions) to anyone.
In any case, it would be nice if people referenced bug numbers.

Omelion looks like a good starting point for a skin.

No, unfortunately the public does not have access, only the developers. Reasons given can be found here

    Thanks for the explanation!
On to something entirely different ...

Sometime ago we talked about Opera's cache. Does that still work for you? I'm seeing a file size of max 1740 KB.

Yes, damn, I noticed that as well. In the process of downloading a 310 MB video from youtube. Good that I checked as there were already many 1740KB files in cache. (Files under 1740KB seem OK). o_O
Anyway for youtube specifically you can use https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/youtube-downloader-2/?display=en
Works well. Firefox's video download helper is King in this regard.

Okay, thanks for confirming that. So it's not just Firefox (and Seamonkey) but Opera as well! Hmmm ...

Really enjoying Opera 12. (xp and Win7)

    No issues so far.

Have set a higher websize font and it is sticking for me now.

Have ticked 'do not track me' in advanced security prefs.

And so far not an icon has disappeared from the favorites bar :)

Favourites you mean? I take it you haven't downloaded the UK English dictionary yet. LOL

Honestly though, I'm finding both 64/32 bit & portable versions are running very well. I haven't tried the fave bar yet. I'm tempted now though. ;)

Regarding hardware acceleration, Opera says they left it disabled by default because their software back-end is still faster in a few cases. Does anyone know any case where Vega actually outperforms hardware accelerated rendering?

Other than that, this release is great. I have little else to say since I was already a longtime Opera user to begin with.

One thing I noticed was that they're pushing for themes over skins. From the little I read, skins are more customizable.

And one feature that I'd like to see is caret browsing (navigation) but I don't think it's present.

Oh, something new to me, but not sure how it will benefit me.
What about mouse gestures ? Very useful in Opera, but nothing like it for Firefox ?

    http://www.opera.com/browser/tutorials/gestures/

The screenshot shows mouse gestures when visual hints are enabled. Needless to say I never had them enabled - this just for illustration.

I find caret browsing convenient on my laptop and did try mouse gestures but they just aren't for me. (Even Midori has them, IIRC.)

Since I installed Opera 12 x64 I don't have sound anywhere in my webbrowser be it youtube or something else. Updated Flash Player but that didn't fix the issue. Does anyone have a solution for that?

ok figured out it's weird buggy Appguard blocking it....

if you are going to mouse gestures you might as well use a 'global app instead of something that is browser based only.

Only in Opera for me :) It's a speed enhancer for me; faster than keyboard s/cuts and much faster than clicking back/forward arrows (i.e. if you have a mouse as opposed to touchpad.)

I've been setting-up the 64 bit version on my desktop PC. I only have this version installed. I'm still impressed by the overall speed. No real problems, had a crash after closing 32 tabs, although everything is fine now. I don't normally open that many tabs at a time.

    Haven't lost a favicon yet either ... ;)

Overall I'm impressed so far. :)

Yeah, I've just tried that skin thanks. I've decided to make a clean install on my notebook. It's not breaking pages like it was.
