I envy you. My IE starts cold in 11 seconds, Opera about the same, and FF in about 17 seconds cold. I'm patiently waiting for the new Opera 10 and FF3.5.

lol. Minefield in 7 seconds, IE and Chrome in about 3.

I think you should see a noticeable improvement in Fx 3.5

Yeah the hype is for opera unite that is to be included in opera 10 browser.
"Opera Unite is a form of collaboration technology that allows you to share data such as files or photos with other users, directly from your computer . You can also communicate directly with others by hosting chat sessions or posting notes. The technology behind Opera Unite uses a compact server inside the Opera desktop browser to share data and services. With Opera Unite, there is no need to waste time uploading content you want to share. You share the content directly from your computer rather than loading it and sharing it through a third-party server."

The strength of Unite is in its widgety approach; various services act like add-ons for the browser, and those that are included in this first build work great. Chat – couldn’t be simpler; fire it up, you get an URL which you can send to friends; they simply paste it (in any browser, not just Opera), choose a nickname and you’re chatting away. Same goes for file sharing; yes, there are services that let you share your local folders over the internet, VPN style; however, this one is so easy to setup that I don’t see why most users would use anything else.

In short opera tries to include the features of a chat messenger (web server) within its browser.

LOL It's a P4 with 1GB RAM. That should be enough to run a browser. :D

Something is wrong with your system. I use P4 with 512MB and Opera starts in less than 3 seconds cold.

I can't imagine what, everything else runs great. I'm using broadband and after I start the browsers cold, if I close them and reopen them, then they open in 3 seconds. Surfing is always fast.

Unite seems interesting, especially since developers can make their own apps for it. Even smarter to make it work with other browsers. Too bad it won't be long before it gets copied. All opera needs now is some sort of extensions. It has widgets and cloud service.

Nah, I used to use quite a lot of firefox extensions but I'm surviving fine without them, specially NoScript, since Opera seems to handle scripts in a much safer and securer manner, i.e. blocks off repetitive pop up boxes and such.
