If Google has to sell Chrome and stop developing open source Chromium what happens then? Chromium alone has ~ 500+ distinct APIs and features such as web APIs, extension APIs, DOM, JavaScript APIs, and platform-specific features. OpenAI may have their eye on the huge user database, but do they have the staff to keep Chromium afloat as well as operating and maintaining Chrome? The other spanner in the works, is that all the other prospective buyers will be tech companies - many already monopolies (or close to it). Microsoft is out for sure.
