OpenAI’s board is no match for investors’ wrath
A power play in business is a coercion tactic that forces negotiations & possibly concessions, but it only works if the instigators have not underestimated their counterparts. Be assured that Big Tech & the venture capitalists that have billions at stake in OpenAI to be the ones manipulating the un-firing of Altman. These financial barons will fight for their ROI.
A not-for-profit run as a for-profit, high risk enterprise is an enigma. What could go wrong? Looks as though they just found out!
Microsoft hires ex-OpenAI leaders Altman and Brockman to lead new AI group
Emmett Sheer, CEO OpenAI
Emmett Shear’s posts on X reveal he is a self-declared AI “doomer” and “safetyist” who wants to slow AI development, explicitly breaking with Silicon Valley who want to charge ahead as fast as possible with minimal concern for regulations.
MS has pledged a $10 billion investment in OpenAI, but it has not released any of that money as yet. MS has a lot of chips to play here.
MS has already laid off 10,000 employees this year & now they say they will hire 500 new staff from OpenAI.
It turned out to be a 'turkey shoot'.
The OpenAI employees will give thanks this weekend.
Microsoft got the trophy.
