Lot's to whine about and I will be as succinct as possible.

I run Win 98se (updated fully)
Zonealarm most recent update (free version) till today.. I went back a version.(explain later in this)
Norton Antivirus 2003 fully updated daily

3 weeks ago I had some shutdown issues. COULDN'T. I would get the fatefull BSOD with an Fatal 0E 0028:00000009 and then I would hit a key and the screen would go black with horizontal lines and a cursor flashing somehwere on the screen. I then hit enter and the screen would go black and lock upi the keyboard. This became SOP. SO I D/L some scanners.. Adaware full version, PcBugDoctor, Powerscan, AAT(registered), Pest Patrol, wintasks and NOW TDS-3 Demo version. After all was scanned and done PestPatrol found 3 Trojans and it removed them... but wintasks says that RunDLL is running and it is a leftover from loxoscam trojan. I went in and looked for all the strings and files the loxoscam would have dropped and the real RunDLL.exe was to be renamed as Dis.exe and placed into the system directory. NONE of them were found nor was the Dis.exe. I searched for them but NADA.

I uninstalled Norton and Zonealarm. Suddenly I could shutdown. I re-installed Norton and still good. then Zonealarm and poof.. BSOD. so... uninstalled and retrofit to the previous version of Pro.

But I am still showing unusual activity and netstat shows some irc and some university addresses at very high ports.

SO.... I am now going to put in my Hijack This report.

Run it, then tick the 3 top options in the menu.
Then choose SAVE and save the text file to a new file

 

You may also need some driver updates, I would check if there are any BIOS revisions, and video/sound drivers. Perhaps other drivers such as chipset drivers for your mainboard. These things often help when you get that sort of crash.

 

So... now I have some other weird stuff... like a blank Folder un "My Computer" that is classified as a "SYSTEM" folder. It can't be viewed and won't delete.

RunDLL is still in my task manager and wintasks says its a trojan.

also, I caught winoldap in action again last night in my taskmanager when I 3 finger saluted to see what I could see as it were.
