Admin/Mods, I noticed that if I visit the forum and then leave, the forum keeps showing my status as online for a considerable time, at least 30 minutes or more according to my estimation. It shows a green dot on my avatar and I show up as an online member on the main page. I have checked this by visiting the forum on my phone where I am not logged in. This may create an issue if I was in an active discussion with a member, and then I had to leave suddenly without notice. The member will see my online status and assume that I am online but just ignoring them on purpose, and then they will see my online status disappear after about 30 minutes or so. They will probably assume that I am the rudest person on the planet, especially if they were expecting a response from me. Xenforo should have a setting in the admin control panel called "Online Status Timeout" that controls how long a user is considered online after they have interacted with the forum like clicking on a link. I believe this value should be set at 15 minutes or even less (10 minutes) to avoid the sort of awkward situation I mentioned earlier. Some forum admins tend to set this value very high like 60 minutes, just to pad the number of users currently online, but I assume that Wilders is above such underhanded tactics! Thanks in advance,
Raza0007, thank you for noticing. We changed the timeout from 15 minutes to 30 minutes back in May 2022. There are things that were happening behind the scene, and that time was needed for us to take care of forum business. Unfortunately, we still need that time to continue for us to keep the forum in working order. Can't go into details, however, logging off stops the timer, and you're no longer seen. Now, if you're logging off and you are still seeing yourself online, let us know, and we'll ask our Admins to check your account.
Thanks for the response. If this 30 min timer is needed for admin work then it makes sense to leave it as is. And no, I normally do not log off, I just close the browser window when I leave. I also have the "stay logged in" checked, as it allows me to start back without logging in first. But thanks for letting me know that logging off will take me offline immediately. I will choose that option if ever I am in a middle of a discussion but have to leave without notice.
