I tried to run some installers (Google Chrome, Firefox, etc.) with default sandbox settings and I got connection failure errors. Adding the installer executables to the internet access whitelist didn't fix it. Running existing web browsers works fine, though.

    Perhaps give more info.
Which operating system are you running ?
What Sandboxie build are you talking about ?

I don't install many programs sandboxed but I cant remember last time I used an Online installer that worked. In other words, I don't think Online installers work, you have to use full installers with Sandboxie. I know I tried Chrome's Online installer more than once, and that didn't work. And tried something that I don't remember what it was, perhaps it was Opera. :)

I'm running Sandboxie Plus 5.42 on Windows 10, but the last version from Sophos seemed to have the same results.

I still don't understand the source of the error, if the web browser connection works why the installer shouldn't?

the problem for firefox could be the setup-stub inside which is an nsis language programmed collection of libraries
    Code:
    installing_page.css
    profile_cleanup_page.css
    stub_common.css
    CertCheck.dll
    CityHash.dll
    InetBgDL.dll
    nsJSON.dll
    System.dll
    UAC.dll
    UserInfo.dll
    WebBrowser.dll
    installing.html
    profile_cleanup.html
    bgstub.jpg
    installing.js
    profile_cleanup.js
    stub_common.js

    is sending https requests to
    Code:
    bouncer-bouncer.prod.mozaws.net
    which are not answered.
after fail it opens default browser and this loads the default downloading page for full firefox.

    code
    https://searchfox.org/mozilla-central/source/browser/installer/windows/nsis/stub.nsi
    additional files (stubinstaller)
    https://searchfox.org/mozilla-central/search?q=stub&path=
its not the UAC.dll modul causing this, but all of the other can prevent with its calls

In both Invincea's and Sophos' Sandboxie forum, the official instructions were always to install certain web browsers and their updates on the real system, not in Sandboxie.

The browsers mentioned repeatedly were Chrome, Opera, Vivaldi (i.e. Chromium-based web browsers) and Firefox. It didn't matter if you used online installers or full installers.

If you try to install the current Opera version in Sandboxie via its full installer, you get the error message:

"Opera failed to install. An error occurred while attempting to install Opera!"

It indeed did use to work in the past. I didn't realize none of them worked, I recently tried to install Edge via a web-installer, but I got an error. Luckilly I was able to install one of the first versions of Edge via full installer.

Yes thanks, but I already knew about the problem with MSI installers. But this problem is about online-installers that try to download and run .exe files, they used to work in Sandboxie, but now they are not.
