Decred, the cryptocurrency project focused on governance, has added privacy-focused features to its cryptocurrency DCR.

Decred said it has found a "middle ground” between two extremes - bitcoin and other privacy coins - offering the “right amount of privacy.” Jake Yocom-Piatt, co-founder and project lead of Decred, has created the following comparison chart to illustrate the “middle ground.”
The privacy features are based on CoinShuffle ++, a peer-to-peer coin mixing protocol, which uses “simple code and proven cryptography,” Decred added.

Global currency to replace the dollar
According to Carney, the proposed digital currency would replace the U.S. dollar as the world’s reserve currency. Although Carney didn’t suggest the currency should be Libra, he certainly meant a fiat alternative for global reserves.
He further emphasized his point saying that replacing the dollar with a digital coin substitute is preferable. It’ll be a better option than allowing another national currency to take its place like the Chinese renminbi.

Mark Carney also noted the importance of creating a standard procedure on reaching a consensus over launching the digital currency. He believes that starting something new won’t be an overnight decision and would require considerable deliberations among the stakeholders.
The process would be long, but if everything falls in place then we could soon possibly see the launch of a global digital currency.

In August 2017, the crypto coin brokerage service Coinmama suffered a data breach that impacted 479k subscribers. The breach was discovered in February 2019 with exposed data including email addresses, usernames and passwords stored as MD5 WordPress hashes. The data was provided to HIBP by white hat security researcher and data analyst Adam Davies.

The US’ top financial watchdog has settled with Dallas-based blockchain startup Bitqyck Inc. over allegations it fraudulently sold shares of company stock to more than 13,000 buyers of its Bitqy cryptographic token.

In a statement released yesterday, the US Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) also alleged the firm and its founders Bruce Bise and Sam Mendez fraudulently promised investors interest in a cryptocurrency mining facility through sales of a secondary token, BitqyM, and its related blockchain-powered smart contract.
That facility was supposed to be powered by below-market rate electricity. As it turns out, there was no such deal, and no such facility – the entire mining operation was a fake.

The wait and anticipation are over - Switzerland finally has two newly-minted crypto banks: Sygnum and SEBA. Bitcoin Suisse is also hoping for a regulatory nod of approval towards its own banking license request.
I’m told FINMA makes its final licensing decisions by gathering around a boardroom table in Bern on a Friday. If the decision is “yes”, the lucky bank/broker/exchange then has to agree with the regulator on the exact wording of its press release, which is posted on the following Monday morning.

The wording of FINMA’s announcement on August 26 certainly suggests the regulator was mindful of the risks of rubber-stamping the world’s first crypto banks. The names SEBA and Sygnum don’t appear until the final paragraph, buried under a forthright message that “blockchain-based business models cannot be allowed to circumvent the existing regulatory framework…particularly to the rules for combating money laundering and terrorist financing”.

However, FINMA's apparent "Swiss Finish" to international regulations appears at first glance to make it more cumbersome to conduct crypto transactions in Switzerland.

North Korea denied on Sunday allegations that it had obtained $2 billion through cyberattacks on banks and cryptocurrency exchanges, and accused the United States for spreading rumors.

A United Nations report seen by Reuters last month said North Korea had used “widespread and increasingly sophisticated” cyberattacks to steal from banks and cryptocurrency exchanges, amassing $2 billion which it used to fund weapons of mass destruction programs.

“The United States and other hostile forces are now spreading ill-hearted rumors,” North Korea’s state-run KCNA news agency reported, citing a statement from the spokesperson for the National Coordination Committee of the DPRK for Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism.

These moves further illustrate how dominant bitcoin is becoming in the cryptocurrency market. Comparing bitcoin's market capitalization to that of the total of all other cryptocurrencies, it holds nearly 70% of the total market share.
In a report on its Kryptografen blog Arcane Research's Bendik Norheim Schei said that given this dominance bitcoin was best positioned to become the currency of the internet, despite other cryptocurrency networks that claim to be quicker or better supported by merchants.

While popular messaging app Telegram is preparing to launch its Gram cryptocurrency and the wallets that will store them in October, Tone Vays - a widely-followed crypto investor and analyst says he won't be putting his money in this one.

"I don't like this token," he says in an interview published on YouTube. Looking back at last year's initial coin offering in which Telegram raised a hefty $1.7 billion, he adds: "I think it's a little scammy - I'm not a fan of what they're doing."
The company said last week it was to begin delivery of the "first batches" of the cryptocurrency in the next two months. Indeed, the New York Times reported last week that Telegram faced a hard deadline of October 31 to deliver on Gram, otherwise it would forfeit the $1.7 billion raised to issue the cryptocurrency.
