When I first Launched True Image 2009, it asked me to do a One Click protection. I did this assuming that meant it was going to backup EVERYTHING. Well I got suspicious and went back and checked, and my docs was NOT backed up. This is VERY confusing for the average user. I find the new Acronis to be confusing. It needs to explain in REAL PLAIN ENGLISH, EXACTLY what has been backed up and what hasn't.

So my question is: Am I correct? One Step Protection does NOT backup EVERYTHING?

I never use the thing but the TI userguide says that it backs up the system volume and finds what it thinks is the best place to store the archive. Were your docs on a different drive?

    Hello all,

Thank you for using Acronis True Image

    bonechops,

One-Click Protection option backups your system volume and Master Boot Record only. Please see chapter 4.1 Acronis One-Click Protection available in User Guide for Acronis True Image Home 2009 available here.

    Thank you.

So is One Step protection the same as a My Computer??

I'm confused because I did a One Step backup upon installation and had to do a restore three days later and all my docs, mail and programs were restored.

Unfortunately the term "volume" does not mean exactly the same thing to every computer system or user, for that matter.

My interpretation is that it means it will backup the C partition and the MBR. So if your data is on C then it gets backed up too.

    I've never bothered with a One-Click Protection.

Does the MY COMPUTER method also create a backup of the Master Boot Record?

If you are performing a complete disk image yes. If you have two partitions and only image the second then no.

As far as I know, the MBR is included in any drive or partition image backup. However, the MBR sector (sector 0) will only be restored completely (including the partition table, disk signature, etc.) if you do an Entire Disk Image restore. Otherwise, only the booting code portion of the MBR is restored.
