On the trail of the Dark Avenger: the most dangerous virus writer in the world

This brings back memories for me of the early 90's. I was obsessed with computer viruses because I thought they were cool. I happened to stumble across someone on a computer bulletin board who also was interested like me. He had connections to virus writers and the 'scene'. He didn't write viruses , I later found out he was collecting research for a book he was writing about them.

I was able to get my hands on viruses and their assembler source code. It was interesting to see how they were written and worked. I also got access to BBS computer bulletin boards that hosted viruses and discussions about them. I was able to follow the rivalry between virus writing groups trying to out do each other.

I was able to get a copy of Dark Avenger's polymorphic virus engine and Nowhere Man's Virus creation Lab. And other virus creation tools that followed. I impressed my best friend from high school (we already had graduated) by give him copies. He was better at computers then me but I had the hook up for viruses and the tools. Bragging rights. Fun memories.
