On Macrium or other image backup software.

During restore, the old image/stuff is removed & the new image is put in place.

To remove, is that a 'quick format' they use? Can it do a real format then, deposit the new image?

Rico, there are different types of restores depending on the product. Many imaging system restore the entire image on top of the existing partition, no formatting required. Macrium, when using its DEFAULT Rapid Data Restore, only restores the disk blocks that have changed since the last image (not the entire image)... a much shorter operation, and again, no formatting required.

The old images are not removed, per say, they are just overwritten with the proper DATA.
