I have been looking for some old threads about https, a member whose name I don't recall had an interesting perspective. Related to privacy/anonymity/security, I'm not sure. There were some pitfalls ... These days about everything is https:/ . You know it can be hard to find very old threads. Possibly prior to 2010. Would anyone know the name of the poster in question ? Or have the location of the threads, or a starting point ?
Yes that is the problem with forums, a huge amount of information that can be difficult to locate later on when so many threads discussing similar topics make keyword searches return thousands of results. I remember being in a https discussion thread some years ago we talked about the TLS protocol but it was around the time of the logjam, freak, cipher downgrade exploites. I don't know that would be the thread you're looking for though.
Can't help with the old thread. Perhaps this entry by Ian of IWRConsultancy (who do Simple Software Restriction Policy) might be of interest - simple but worthwhile reminder that https is far from a panacea. https://iwrconsultancy.co.uk/blog/https.htm
