Hi, I have an old XP laptop, which has a broken cd drive. Recently when I tried to boot,it started, then turned off. Now I get the advanced menu screen. If I choose any other option than safe mode, nothing happens. If I choose safe mode, files begin to load, then stop at mup.sys ( I've read this is the last file that loads, anyway )
I have removed the hard drive, put it in an enclosure and connected to my desktop. I ran chkdisk and it says the disc is fine.
So can I rule out the hard drive being faulty ?
My knowledge is quite limited. Thank you
